Brainstormin' 440 vs 5.9 ...

And before anyone says “must be a worn out old pig” it was recently rebuilt and cranks 170-180 psi and makes 55psi oil pressure at idle.
Well, that’s just the swipe at the big block crowd. My engine doesn’t have any of those parts, so kind of completely irrelevant to what my truck may run, but I’m OK with the big block-small block people swinging at each other. I will watch L O L.

I too am curious to see what the actual compression shows up at on that big block if they take the heads off. I'm more curious to see if the valves are sunk from the last valve job on the 452's. I'm starting to like the looks of going 11's for not much outlay with one of these motorhome iron slugs.

Again...... trying to keep it on every page

This is funny to me because I like both small blocks and big blocks. Just because of how Mother Mopar built cars, most of mine have been small blocks. I have much more stuff for small blocks because of that. However, it humors me how many actually wear blinders and are so out of touch with reality. :) Carry on!!

And what is really being exposed here is the fact that none of us (me included) know, or maybe not even have the slightest clue, of what the run of the mill - basic late 70's 440 will run in D150 with headers, better than stock TC, and maybe a little gearing? This should be so basic fundemental knowledge yet over a 1000 posts and over 20k views, here we are. This is why threads like this are more informative than 100 dyno videos. There,, I said it. More informative than 100 dyno videos. I will be honored, as your host, to bring it to you :)

This is how they enjoy it. Bears/Packers. Chiefs/Broncos. SB/BB's LOL. Some only see the uniform, and some see the talent.
Just to be clear the Broncos and Packers are trash forever (born Chicago and raised in KC lol) but I don’t wear team shirts for displacement lol. But do wear team Mopar while friendly poking at Chevy friends.

Go Broncos..... LOL

Jegs... after saying the expected ship date was 12-22-25 on my helmet when I bought it, sent me a message saying it's now 4-1-25. How can they state expected to ship "12-22-25" then? Not happy.

Tell em to keep it and for a few bucks more snag a racequip from summit.

I’m not necessarily a big block or a small block lover or hater. I like anything that makes power and is built right. I will say I definitely do NOT think the motorhome 440 deserves the credit it gets. They just don’t run hard. Unless you cram a bunch of boost through em. And even then they’re underachievers for how many cubic inches they give you. In almost all engine families the big block mopar was saddled with probably the worst cylinder head. I’d bet a stock moho 440 bottom end with trick flow 240s would pick up a bunch.

In my video I said the 440 RV engine may be the most inefficient engine Dodge ever made since the net HP era. Nobody argued, because it's true. I don't think it's getting much credit here in this thread either, as most have it running 1.5-2 seconds slower than a 200,000 mile 360 with a mild cam, even though the 440 has a much bigger bore, bigger valves, more stroke.

But a terrible cylinder head. Which is why it takes so much duration to get a big block mopar to make power. With a 230 @050 cam a magnum 360 makes ~410 hp with a stock head. Freiburgers 440 didn’t muster up 400 with one. The cubic inch to cylinder head flow relationship is important and evidence of that is the low rpm the torque and power peaks come in at.

Many Big blocks of this era suffered the same thing. However, I argue that the factory BB heads are not as bad as they seem. My friend ran 9.20's @ 150 mph with 906 heads on a 440. I saw a basic street dart ( you might say) with 3.55's go 10.50's on 906 heads. This was so common back in the day at the track. That was back when a fast 340 Duster was running 12.8's with 3.55's and factory cast heads. And really, a 10.50 streetcar today without juice or boost is a serious car on the street!
