Broken dipstick nub? How I got it out

I searched and found several threads on removing the broken off nub on the dipstick tube (in the block). My engine was in the car and I did not want to pull the pan or other methods. I cleaned the area first.. found a lag bolt the fit...then..

Weld a long thin bolt to the lag bolt. Then weld a large nut to that bolt head. The large nut was so I could thread it to my slide hammer. Use a ratchet/socket to screw In the lag bolt just a little. Screw on slide hammer...came out super easy!!

WOULD A MAGNET WORK OR IS THE DIP NON MAGNETIC?
 
IMHO nub typically brakes because it is rusted in place etc.

Magnet, assuming tube is ferrous material, would not be strong enough to do anything.
