Any ideas on how to remove a broken torsion bar adjuster bolt? The bar is under tension. I was trying to remove the bar.

Help!!

Mike

First you have to lift the car up and remove the tension, suggest a cut off wheel or try a saw-all. Once you lift the car and remove the torsion bar tension the bolt and nut might wiggle out.

You'll need to remove the upper arm bolts and the brake fluid hose to let the entire knuckle assembly down and relieve all the tension.

You might also remove the upper bump stop to get a bit more movment in the suspension. Spray it with some wd40 or eqivilent.
Did you have the suspension hanging when you tried to back off the adjuster?

If the adjust bolt was backed out removing the bump stop might help but with tension still on the bar the upper arm will have to be seperated at the bushing bolts or the ball joint.

These are some great ideas. Thanks!!

The head of the bolt has twisted off. I did have the weight off of the car when I broke the bolt.

I will remove the bump stop and see if that releases enough tension.

Thanks again guys!!

If that doesnt do it,disconnect the shock. That will allow more movement. Also disconnecting the strut rod will help as well.
