I know this topic is on here a lot but if anyone could give me their opinion that would help a ton

here is what I have
340 block ( I was going to stroke it to 416 but changed my mind) Bored .030 over
I have the O heads with the 2.02 valves

I was looking at this cam
http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?part=CCA-K20-225-4&autoview=sku
which is
Intake Duration at 050 inch Lift: 240 Exhaust Duration at 050 inch Lift: 246 Duration at 050 inch Lift: 240 int./246 exh. Advertised Intake Duration: 284 Advertised Exhaust Duration: 296 Advertised Duration: 284 int./296 exh. Intake Valve Lift with Factory Rocker Arm Ratio: 0.507 in. Exhaust Valve Lift with Factory Rocker Arm Ratio: 0.510 in.
Will this be able to drive on the street or is it to big of a cam. Should I go with the 274 or the 268?

Thanks for the advice in advance

I did put it into the Comp cams program and it is under 6 - Auto - Series Street, Some Strip, Mild-Rough To Rough Idle

That's a big camshaft for a 340.

Think about how hard you want to turn it and go from there. Think Gear, tire diameter and intended use.

If you run that cam, you best have at least a 3500 convertor behind it.

Another benefit to staying under the 274 cam is a single spring with damper can be used. On the lunati, comp 274 and above, you need to run a dual spring.

That comp cams article build is pretty solid and will be a high 12's build with the rest of the drivline/traction being right. The Dyno they use has been known to be kind of happy with HP...

I'm a big fan of the Lunati voodo series of cams, for your 340 i'd go with the 60403,a good dual plane intake,at least a 3000 stall converter, and some 3.91's will wake that 340 right up..i ran the 60403 in my 416 when i first put it together, the duster went a best of 11.29..then i swaped to the 60405 and the car went 11.02..before i did some damage to the motor,i'm currently running a .30 over 360 which has the 60404 cam and still tuning but has run a best so far of 11.80...only problem i've incounted with the Lunati cams are 2 of them collasped a pair of lifters twice on me,don't know whos making their lifters but their cams are worth every penny...

I'm with the Lunati cam choice. The Comp cam is good. I just like the Lunati better and if you want to run the same duration as the Comp Cam, the lift gets larger.

Speaking directly about the Comp cam, you'll need a min. of 4.10 gears and a good stalling converter. I think 3,000 would do it but that 3500 would really get the car going if set up for such fun.

I have run cams that large and larger. It seriously depends on what your willing to put up with.

I am also a lunati fan. Have the 60403 in my 65 340 powered cuda. My set up is as follows & has gotten me consistent low 8's in the 1/8 mile the few times i've taken the oldschoolcuda to the track. The rhoads lifters really help with drivability & a lower gear and I laugh when folks think 800 cfm's is to much for a 340. Nice article SoulSurvivor.
71 340 (.030 over)
10.5 TRW pistons
Ported X heads
Hooker super comp. Fenderwells
Lunati voodoo 60403 cam
Rhoads lifters
Edelbrock performer rpm manifold
Edelbrock 800 cfm eps carb
8 3/4 with 3.55 sure grip
2400 stall converter

Oldschoolcuda

UltraDynes #252284 is one hellava nice cam. its a Hydraulic that thinks its a solid. use that with some Rhoads lifters
with what you have listed, and you'll never look back.

I agree that is a pretty stout cam for the street. Beside the idle issue you brought up, a cam that big won't have a lot of vacuum at idle. To take advantage of a big cam a lot of gear is needed out back and the engine needs about 10.0-10.5:1 compression.

The Demon has a Crane Fireball (no longer made) cam in it. Crane's PowerMax H-260-2 is close to the grind I have. Throttle response with 625 AFB is good on the 318. The engine has a 9.3:1 compression ratio and a tall gear out back.

I also think the XE284 is too much for your 340 unless you run a real loose converter and allot of gear. I run the Lunati 60404 in my 360 with ported x heads, air-gap intake, headers, 3000 stall, 3:73 gear with a 27" tire and it runs fantastic. I first had a XE274 in it but couldn't keep lifters in it. replaced it with the Lunati and it runs much better. It actually don't need as much converter as I have in it but I allready had it in so it stays. The Lunati seems to be much more torquey than the XE274. Maybe the extra lift works better with my heads??

IMHO I'd go with a Lunati 60403 for good street manners with good performance that will peak out at about 6,000 rpm or if you want a little more and you have a 2800 or looser converter with at least a 3:73 gear the 60404 will fit the bill.

I'm not dissing Comp cams but even the XE series is ground on the Chevy .842 diameter lifter basis. The lunati's are more aggressive taking advantage of Mopar's larger .904 diameter lifter. A more agressive cam (to a point) means more power.

I second fishy's post. True true true and true!

Whats the rest of the package?
Power brakes? Gearing? use of car? Trans type? What pistons were used and where in relation to the deck of the block were they set to?
