Cam kit with stock pushrods and rockers?

I am rebuilding a 1971 318. Camshaft kit I ordered from classic industries is back ordered with no est delivery. It is a 454/454 lift on intake and exhaust. I am now looking at a COMP Cams K20-222-3 Xtreme Energy Hydraulic Camshaft Kit. 462/470 lift. Can I use stock push rods and rockers with this? I also heard the extreme energy cams are very noisy. Should I just wait for the classic industries kit? What are the pros or cons?

Classic Industries doesn't make anything so you should be able to buy it elsewhere or something similar. I would source the cam you want from a reputable reseller or direct from the manufacturer if you can. The Xtreme Energy cams open the valves quick so they are known to be noisy and that is of course harder on the valve train.

Call Engle and get either an EP20 or EP18

Or call Herbert and look at these.

Anything under .48 valve lift you should be good with stock rockers, but you should check for proper lifter preload and use the correct length push rods.

It also be a good idea to correct valve train geometry per B3 racing. RRR can give you the details.

Thanks guys, I will look into these. The Comp Cams kit thru classic industries just seemed easy since it came with cam, springs, retainers, seals, lifters and all for $520. I will see if any of these places have a similar kit. Jegs and Summit have nothing.

I've not had any issues running a 318 with a Howard's .480 lift with hardened pushrods but stock rockers and shafts since 2019.
All I had to do was shave a few thou off of the guides on 302 casting heads to make sure the seals had clearance.
You may want to check the .470 side just for reassurance but it's pretty safe MOST of the time.
