Cam pick

Just bought my son his first car a 68 dart with a 360 cid all stock heads
can I use the comp cam xe274 with stock valve springs or do you sugest somthing milder???

I would use the 268 cam with stock springs.

I havent looked but thats about as large as I would go with the stockers.

I agree with Bobby. I wouldn't go bigger than a 268. A stock 360 has very low compression so a cam as big as the 274 will be a pig down low. Another problem going any bigger than a 268 is if the heads are stock the guides will need cut down or the retainers will hit them at full lift. Figure new springs no matter what cam you go with. The stock springs are junk for performance and if original are probably 90% worn out. Put a big cam on them and they'll go completely flat in no time.

make sure you do not have rotators for valve spring retainers on the exhaust valves...
