What I know: 3.9 v6 engine 1991 Dakota truck. Pk53008144 1148 7989
lots of fuzzy info on this trans. Most likely an A500. Fact is it has to be, everything I read says so. But!! The valve body don’t match the A500, the flywheel is odd and has a sensor on it goes through the u shaped hole passenger side top of bell housing. Everything I read says should be LU OD, but only one solenoid on VB. If you can help me awesome.
why I’m drilling down on this is the parts and wiring. Need a rebuild kit, need to be able to wire the OD and LU. Best I can tell electrically control hydraulically engaged. Need to get a correct torque converter for my engine set up. Tougher parts too gonna be a stout engine. Again thanks for all helpful info.

What’s odd is every thing I read about this engine. It only came with the A500 never ever mentioned the A999

Yes, the 3.9L is from the magnum family.

That is definitely an odd duck.. I'm assuming it was an early build before they went to A500.

According to the number, it does not appear to be the original transmission for 1991 model year. The date 1148 is February 4, 1992. 53008144 was used in 1992 vans and pickups. It is listed as A998, with long extension, with 3.9 liter engine, high stall, with electronic lock-up torque converter.

High stall? 3500? 3000?
This is weird duck for sure but still a good choice I have a 904 that I can use. But the lock up feature would be cool for highway driving. Anyone have a supply house that can guide me to the upgrades to make it stronger. I know the plastic accumulator needs to be changed. As well as the others, they can be a weak link. I know Oregon performance seems to have a good amount of info. Any others? Thanks guys!
