Hi All, In another thread I found two Demons in a junkyard and was contemplating whether to buy the 1972 Citron Yella one (with a 318) or the Plum Crazy one (with a 225 slant 6). So I'd decided to buy the Plum Crazy one (someone else bought the Yella car). Below are photos of it. I was wondering if anyone can decode the car, based on the photos, because the data plate rusted away and there is no build sheet. I can decode it to a very basic car, maybe one of the kind that was not ordered by a buyer, but a car that was made and then dumped on a lot to sell fast and cheap. So based on what I can research online and from the photos, this is what I can break down: LL29C1B vin#, rear bumper guards (M83), engine 225 1V (E24), dual horns (J31), high impact paint (FC7), power steering (S77), Music Master base AM radio (R11), trans- auto 225 1V (D34).

The car also appears to have the nose of a 1972 Plymouth Duster (hood, bumper, front fenders, grille, etc.) and was repainted a long time ago. Someone also put on original equipment Mopar demon stickers on the rear fenders.

What are your plans with the car?

Full restoration without build sheet will be a crap shoot, especially with the mods already done.

Since you don't have a fender tag or build sheets the car is really your's to do as you please. Dont sweat what it was!

Based on my research, a base, standard model Demon for 1971 would have: 198ci 1V engine, 3 speed manual trans on the column, rubber floor, black vinyl bench seat, manual drum brakes, 34 amp alt., no rear armrests or ashtrays, 40 amp battery, manual drivers side mirror, radio blank-out plate, no rear defrost, 2 speed windshield wipers, floor windshield washer, standard wheels tires were 6.45x14black sidewall tires with 4.5J wheels. If the car was manufactured before May 1971, it would have body colored wheels with redline poverty hubcaps. If the car was manufactured after May 1971 it would have black wheels with plain poverty hubcaps.

Well I'm still digging for the build sheet. I'm all about originality, all my cars are totally original, down to the radio, if possible. The plan is just to get it correct, road worthy and scrub it down and drive it locally. Here's a picture of the data plate, haha...

I was looking online to try to find a correct bare bones Demon, but they're hard to find anymore, especially since someone decided to reproduce those goofy double hood scoops; now every car including Fords have those scoops... Here's a picture of a Plum Crazy Demon that looks to be correct, and with few options; note the correct wheels and hubcaps..

There's probably the remains of a build sheet in there somewhere, but I doubt it will be readable. It's going to be an ambitous project with the what rust is visible. But I would have to have it, too, just on account of it being an original FC7 Plum Crazy car. A great start to build one the way someone would want it, however that may be.

Ya, very true. I was researching the FC7 (Plum Crazy) 1971 Demon breakdown information around the internet, and this is what I came up with:
9.5% of 66125 1971 Demons were Plum Crazy, which = 6282 Plum Crazy 1971 Demons made.
959 1971 Demon 340's were Plum Crazy, which = 5323 Plum Crazy non-340 1971 Demons.
So this Demon would be one of 5323 Plum Crazy made.

Then fast forward 53 years, and I'd say half of them are gone, although Plum Crazy cars may have been saved more than a beige or green car. And then add the hundreds of non-Plum Crazy Demons that are now painted Plum Crazy, so what we have in the end is just a mess... In any event, I'm just glad to have a Plum Crazy Demon, they're great

Let's see those original car pictures.
The original cars I have are not A bodies, haha... One of my cars still has the original tires on it from 1988, another I had one of those phony battery tops specially made to match a factory 1971 AMC battery :)

Doesn't matter to me if they're vintage Edsel's. Originals are..........original.
