I've been looking at in dash tach to add to my dash. The thing is with the in dash tachs I see no shift light.

Is it possible to have a in dash tach, and mount a external light on the colum or something?

Just a thought?? If someone knows of such a thing could you post a link?

Thanks much!!

Ya, if it has a shift light it usually has some length of wire to where the shift light can be run in a different location and mounted. As long as the tach has a shift light or you have provisions for a shift light you should be all gravy

Well, as far as what I see, none of the "in-dash" tachs have external shift lights.

Also as far as what I read I didn't see any sort of input for a shift light on the in-dash tachs either.

You would think something like that would exist.

They don't because it's very, very difficult to see when you're racing. You really want to keep your eyes and head up. If you really felt the need I suppose you could column mount one.

Well that is what I was hoping the light alone would be for. I could just mouth the light "up" where it could be scene.

A plain light could be actuated from an ignition box with a built in rpm switch like the Mallory 685.

by dash tach do you mean...like an autometer? Or something factory? And Ramcharger is right about the rpm switch

My Friends Used To Have A Little Ricer That He Raced And He Had An In-dash 2 5/16 Digital Gauge That Had 6 Led In It For The Shift Light And When It Came On You Could See It Anywhere In The Car No Matter What Direction You Where Looking..i Believe It Was A Stewart Warner Gauge But I Believe Autometer And Vdo Etc Make A Simiular One

You can buy an external shift light and related parts to program the light through summit and mount were you prefer and still run the indash tachometer
