I know its been discussed, but I just saw a gallon of the CA berrymans B12 type stuff..It was 27 bucks! Holy cow, I thought it was like 12. So whats a good alternative? I like carb cleaner but I want to soak an AFB body in something. I tried Vinegar on a whim, didnt do anything but clean the steel parts nicely, didnt do a thing on the AL parts, still sooty black or just greasy. (the steel parts wiped suprisingly clean) Tried Pine-Sol a while ago and it wasnt that great either. I soaked a part in straight degreaser and it started to grow strange little aluminum fibers on the part, maybe a little too concentrated..? I was thinking straight Toluene (ingredients in Spray carb stuff is Toluene, Petrol distillate (probably for some body) and acetone (to evaporate cleanly)). I also read rubbing alcohol works good. Anyone have a secret family recipe that they care to share? It will be an outside covered dip but dont want to die using it.

The Berryman works good. I have a 6 gallon pail. It ain't cheap. Plus, if you strain it out every now and then, it gets it's strength right back. To me, its only drawback is that it changes some carburetor's color. Holleys for instance come out looking grey. I don't know of anything home made that works as well.

Thanks, Rob. Ill trade you straight across for those gears, hahahaha! I just dont dip that often to justify the 27 clams. I too stripped a Holley with that stuff.

LOL. That six gallon pail (only 5 gallons of cleaner) was like 69 bucks at Oreilly's. I promise, if you get one, you'll use it more than you think. It ain't just for carburetors.
