IMO, The 68 Vert 383 4spd drop top was the rarist 2nd gen A on the field hands down! Nice Fish!!
Yeah pictures do not show how nice that car really is. That car just blew me away. I was told they brought it all the way across the country from Washington state.

Welp how was it? I was at a Yankees game Saturday...they lost :)
Hot but fun and as expected weather for PA in mid-July.

Brief rain late Sat. afternoon and everyone just cleared out. Sunday is pointless now. Why is everyone in such a rush to leave, so they can go home and sit on their ***? OK it's hot but whatever, it's not that big of a deal. It would suck if it rained the whole time so you take the good with the bad. Until about 10 years ago Sunday used to be a good day and you'd get some good deals if you were persistent. It's a ghost town now, kind of a bummer.

This is why events start going down the tubes. I've seen it with drag racing and tracks end up closing because of poor attendance. Gotta support these events and make the best of them or they die a slow death and eventually disappear.

I agree. I was at Maple Grove the weekend before, not many in the stands just the racers support it. Not sure how much longer it can last. You probably experienced a late day thunder storm that's typical this year in Pa but if it wasn't slated to rain Sunday I agree people should have stayed, why not? what happens is if you are gong to be outside, its humid anyway so a little rain just adds to the sweat but we are having a tropical summer or at least that's what I call it...:)

I don’t know the answer. Maybe people are just not as tough as they used to be?

If you are going to an event, prepare for the weather and roll with it. It’s just rain you won’t melt. If you have a lot of stuff, cover it. We had a 5 gallon jug of ice water and give it to people it really helped. Make sure you take breaks and get out of the sun, dress light, wear sun block, wear a hat, don’t eat heavy foods that sit in your stomach like a rock or drink beer at 10:00 AM… common sense.

Swap meets in general were killed by the internet so I get it. Still, it’s once a year, don’t throw in the towel at the first hint of adversity.

I bailed because it looked like the rain would be around a while...also because I was absolutely exhausted and very sore. Walking around a fairground all day was a lot easier at 25.

I use the weather app on my phone, don't you? It showed the storm was just passing. Based on the heat and amount of humidity in the air, it would have been more surprising if it didn't rain.

I'm 55 and the guy I go with is 64 so we're not spring chickens in the least. I lost 4lbs. this weekend from all the walking and loading/unloading in the heat.

Everyone has their limit and I get that it's not easy to be in these types of situations for some people. Just prepare yourself as best as you can and don't make excuses for folding if you don't.

While I didn't go to Carlisle this year I've been to many Spring, Fall , Ford, Mopar events there. Carlisle can provide you with some crazy weather.

I had planned to go an hour away from my house to the Nostalgic event at Lucas Oil Raceway Park this past weekend to see Doug's 64 Plymouth run, but it was

just to hot for me. My days of hanging out in the July heat are over with.

I am 64. Planned to go Friday but threat of storms excessive heat stayed home. Rain threat went down Saturday so I did the 1 1/2 hour drive up leaving at 6:30 am blasting AC in the car. I had cooler waters gatorade and pop up canopy. I did 45 - 60 minute walks then sat back down under canopy cooled off. Event was crazy awesome glad I went.

Hit monsoon storm on way home car hydroplaned but was able to pull into truck stop wait an hour for storm to pass. Then drove in light rain wipers on rest of the way home. Wasnt real happy to have the car in that high of risk. My nornal 1 1/2 hour turned into close to 3 hour drive. But car is back in garage all is fine.....

Talked to the owner for quite a while.
Yes he came from WA state towing an enclosed trailer with the cuda and his buddy's 70 440-6 GTX inside.

If I lived here, I would start off looking like this:

And by the end of summer look like this.

Holy crap is the weather different from California. I have worked in 110 degree heat. I’ve driven my old cars in it. You get into shade and get a fair amount of relief but here???
I’m in the shade sitting still and my forearms and legs are sweating. I’m surprised I dont stink like a scummy bum. I used to dismiss the comments of how Arizona had a dry heat despite it being 125 degrees but the humidity absolutely makes a difference.
No wonder cars rust out here. I’ve seen 3-4 year old trucks with rust. Back home there is none of that. My 1975 Power Wagon has very slight bubbling over the rear wheel wells but is otherwise solid. This is crazy!
Having stated that..,,
What a massive car show! It is damned near too much to take. Back home if there are 8 Chargers at a show, it is a good turnout. I don’t know how many 68-70s I saw yesterday. Parts??
Our biggest show out west is good but strolling through the swap meet here is unreal. I’m not looking for anything specific at the moment but if I were, I’d probably find it.
I’ve been in the FXBO tent back and forth and met a lot of forum members and also Steve Dulcich, a genuine cool guy.

We went to a Target store and bought a neck fan for the wife…

Oh, where the heck does a man buy denim shorts nowadays? I’ve been to 4 stores in the last week and nobody stocks them.
Welcome to Pennsylvania.

I pack up and leave on Saturday afternoon for the same reason everyone else does, we have a hell of a drive home.
I live in Cincinnati and it's an 8 hour drive, if my bladder makes it to the next gas stop.
The guys across from me, drive up from South Carolina, the guy next to me comes from Maine, the guy behind me comes from Indiana.
Most of the vendors are not local or even close.

That. I ran into a couple guys there from Georgia. Another guy was from Arkansas, going by the plates on his truck.

When there is heat index well over 100 I get there early and leave mid afternoon. That way I get to see a lot and avoid the worse heat.

I pre register then if weather is too bad either skip or come as spectator. Carlisle gets my money either way. If I skip after pre paying those funds go to supporting the show.

If was very hot very humid but not the worse I have seen at Carlisle.

Maine is 8 hours from SE Pa same with the border between N and S Carolina...as is Indianna those are lengthy drives I dunnit...

I attended Carlisle twice. My last time there it was HOT! still in the 90s at dark. 1990 something. I brought a pickup load of GOOD parts. One of which was a straight rust free shaker hood. Price was $600. Cheap. The repoped ones made by whats his name in Ill. was $1000. It sat there till Sun. AM before anyone pulled the trigger. No one was buying much, just walking around with a sweat rag and says " its HOT!"..

I haven't been there in many years but live close (about an hour or hour 15) . My Swinger is just about ready I may run it up there one of these years soon just for the day but...I dunno when I started going there early 90s you could pull into the fairgrounds and park now its park down the street and walk up to the gate I don't like that...I tend to do local cruises my car is always in my sight and I leave when I feel like it etc.

You guys are like the people that go to sporting events and leave early “to beat the traffic”. You are the traffic… Guess I’m also just used to the days when no one left on Saturday.

I’m not local at all. While not as far as some of the drives mentioned, I am at least 4hrs away. If you’re farther than that I really can’t see how leaving on Saturday would make sense. Get some sleep and take Sunday for the drive.

I plan ahead to stay the whole weekend and factor the drive into it. Maybe staying in a hotel forces you to think that way? I dunno.

Either way, it’s hard to fathom getting up early, being out in the sun all day and then driving however long it takes to get back home. When I first started going I’d leave my place at the crack of dawn, drive 4+hrs., stay all day and drive back. That sucked and was unsafe. Only did that 1-2 times before I wised up and started staying over.

I’m just saying that if you think ahead and prepare then you don’t have to make excuses. The show is that much better when you’re relaxed and don’t feel like you need to be somewhere else.

There's no real reason to be there 2.5 days IMO unless maybe you are a vendor. In that case in theory you are making money as opposed to spending it there for 2 plus days. Just outside the box practical thinking, there are many reasons people don't do the whole show.
