Carlisle 2025

-
It's so interesting to read everyone's take on the Carlisle show. I can relate to some of you but I would have to disagree with some too. But I'm sure we can all agree on one thing: Chryslers @ Carlisle is one hell of an event.

I'm an hour and 20 away. I drag the camper up on Thursday to a campgrpund 10 minutes from the fairgrounds. My sons and my best friend caravan up with me. We park 1 or 2 vehicles on the show grounds and walk all the parts rows in 3 shifts on Friday, then pretty much hang on the show field all day on Saturday behind our vehicles under a shade tent. Sleep til 8am Sunday then pack up and head home well rested. Home by 11am.

I started going in the mid 80s just for Saturday, when I was a teen. Started doing the Friday Saturday thing, driving up and back both days in the early 2000s, and about 12 years ago, we started doing the camper thing Thurs to Sunday.

I really can’t see how leaving on Saturday would make sense. Get some sleep and take Sunday for the drive.
Do you really think I'm packing up at 5:00pm to drive back to Cincinnati Saturday night?
I pack up, I go get dinner (because I don't leave my vendor spot, except to pee, all day), go to the hotel and go to sleep.
Sunday morning I get get breakfast, drive home, probably get late lunch in Parkersburg WV or Athens OH, then get home about 4:30 or 5:00 pm. I unload my van, and I finally sit down to rest, around 7:30 or 8:00pm.
I do drive to Maryland on Saturday night, but that's only because hotel rooms in Carlisle are $250 a night, and I can stay in Hagerstown for $100 or cheaper a night.
I have stayed until Sunday in the past, but it never covered the cost of the extra day at the hotel, and I mostly had to deal with tire kickers, and cheapskates.
Nah, I'm going home, I'll catch you at the Nationals.

It's all in a persons priorities in my 20s and 30s yes I'd be there all day sweating it out but because I've done it I know what I'm missing I think alot of us do. I think I've said it a local cruise I go am there for a few hours and leave that does it for me or a trip to the drag strip etc. It isn't as crowded the crowds are killer ever see what a crowd does to a restroom?

Yes 7 hours door to door. I get in Wednesday afternoon and set up. I am there until around 1 pm saturday. No hotel, no camper or motorhome etc. Everyone shopping is done by then. I am also pretty much done by then !! A nice drive home in the ac feels great..!! Stayed many times until Sunday, almost everyone is gone by early a.m. . Unload Sunday back to work on Monday. I see where some folks with the expensive hotel rooms may not want to add an extra night. No complaints here, great event, fun time always look forward to it !! Swingn’

Obviously everyone has their own way of doing things and will always do what's in their own best interest. I'm arguing for the soul of the meet. It's one of if not the the big event for the hobby and the hope is that it sustains itself forever. I know for a fact it it used to be packed all weekend even into Sunday afternoon. It's sad to see people clearing out on Saturday.

It's hard to argue the fact that when people start bailing out on an event early for whatever reason it starts to decline. Regrettably, I've never made it to the Mopar Nationals but it seems like that meet has become an afterthought. I'd hear about people complaining about this or that for years and it became a self-fulfilling prophecy. Same with the Mopar Atlantic Nationals at Englishtown. I just don't want to see Carlisle end up the same.

I'm not saying anyone is "wrong" for doing what they do and all the explanations laid out here for leaving early are mostly valid. That said, it is an outdoor event during July in Central PA so it's invariably going to be hot and muggy. Sure it would be great if it was 20 degrees cooler but I'm not sure if changing the event date would be beneficial though. Hotels do not seem that expensive to me but I understand that might be different for some. Do what you can with what you have.

The problem is people read this stuff and start getting the idea that it may not be worth doing because of these outside factors. As with anything in life there's things you can't control so if you accept that then the focus is more about the event itself.

There's no real reason to be there 2.5 days IMO unless maybe you are a vendor. In that case in theory you are making money as opposed to spending it there for 2 plus days. Just outside the box practical thinking, there are many reasons people don't do the whole show.
I wish it was a day longer, it takes that long to see most of the show field.

Carlisle isn't going anywhere in any of our lifetimes. They'd just raise the ticket prices to stay profitable.
They already have. Starting next year. I always pre pay my vendor spots, and they went up 10% for next year.
BTW, for those who don't know, most vendors come in and get set up on Wednesday. There is no charge to come in on that day.
If you really need something, Wednesday is the day to be there.
I had people standing around as I was unpacking, looking at what I had. I sold $800 worth of stuff just while I was setting up.

How difficult is it to get a spot? I figure they are pre sold before every event no? I could see showing my car one year but I am still finishing it I live close enough to drive it there as an "adventure" LOL!

Just to walk in the gate ticket prices are not that much. Used to be $10? Before I started vending, I used to park my car outside Gate 2 on the letter streets and go in and out with a hand stamp. Not sure what the walk-in cost is now. I do not know what it costs to put a car on the show field. Yes, vendor spaces went up $10 for next year. AFAIK it's been a while since they raised prices so it's no surprise.

I've also had the same experience where people are buying stuff as I'm setting up. Those are the flippers. I've actually seen parts I sold being offered at higher prices in other vendor spots which makes me laugh. My goal is to not bring stuff back home so knock yourself out with that.

It has become a Weds.-Friday event at least on the swap-meet side. Perhaps if the show opened on Thursday instead people might be more inclined to stay through Sunday.

We renew our spots before we leave. We stop in the office on the way out of Gate 3. Takes 5 minutes, maybe 7 if there's people in front of you.

Snowfield or vendor spot? Snowfield is waaayyy easier than vendor spots.
If you're looking to show a car, it seems that they will find room for you. There were over 3200 cars there this year and that's up from past years.
Vendor space is on the 1st come 1st served basis. They will hold your spots until Oct 29th, then they open up to the public. They could probably sell more vendor spots if they had the space. It seems like the car corral has gotten smaller due to putting more vendors in there.
Yes, most spots are pre sold. I don't know that you could show up the day of and hope to get a place in the show. If you've never been, it's the most organized show you'll ever go to.
Walk in spectator was $25 a person, $10 to park, if there's room left, not sure what it will be going forward.

I'm thinking showfield at first but then Id look to sell stuff maybe the big stuff hoods fenders etc. maybe the following year

I recall showfield is $80 for the whole weekend. Car corral hasn't been that big the last few years.

I paid $67 to pre register my car. I have registered at the gate many times and have never heard of anyone getting turned away for show field.

It seems the level of restored cars and number of restored cars has increased a lot. Some folks bring there premiered work in progress cars too.

It really is something to see. Even at 100 plus degree heat indexes ect its great to go see walk around

No..!! I absolutely don’t see this show going away. At least any time soon. As much as we talk about the heat in July, I think if they changed the show dates that wouldn’t be good.we seem to have the perfect storm of combinations. Lots of people take time off around this show vendors and spectators, which you need both. Rain can and does happen but not usually enough to hurt the whole event. I also agree Wednesday is much busier then it used to be. All good..!! Swingn’

I had a feeling this was the case re: setting up on Wednesday. Thanks for sharing this info. This is very helpful.

Did anyone see this?

We have been attending and vending at the Carlisle Chrysler Nationals since 1992. This show is the premiere event for anyone into the Mopar brand. I tell people that if they want to attend one event featuring the Mopar brand, then Carlisle is the place to go.

Over the years, we have attended events through the states and other countries and Carlisle is hands down the best thing going in taking care of the show car owners, the vendors and spectators.

All of the shows are seeing a slight decline in participation. We see it in our sells and the volume of customers that we deal with during the week. The demographics of the group is aging and no longer wish to spend the entire day in the heat.

Due to the size of our display, I arrive on Monday afternoon to put the truck in place and to make sure that the tent is ready for us to start setting up our display. With three of us on Tuesday and two more arriving on Wednesday, we hope to have things in place so that we can take care of the customers as they start arriving on Thursday. This year, we had a tremendous Wednesday. Guys are coming in early so as to get product before it is sold out in our product line of reproduction parts.

Every year since 2020 and Covid, we have seen more people arriving earlier and leaving on Saturday by mid afternoon. I know that for us, we are now starting to pack things up starting at 3:00 on Saturday afternoon and it takes us approximately six hours with eight guys to load up the trucks and trailers.

By the time that I leave on Sunday around noon to 1:00, there is basically nobody left selling parts and the show field is basically empty as well as the midway.

For me, I have a 14 hour drive back home. Most people who have to be back at work on Monday uses Sunday as a travel day. They have off the entire week of the show, so they are arriving sooner and leaving so that they can be back home to go to work on Monday.

In regards to the show size, the swap meet is over 3200 spaces and by the time that the renewal deadline is set in late October, there will be less than 100 to 150 spaces that are not renewed. Typically by mid January, all of the swap meet spaces are booked. People will occasionally turn spaces back in during the year, due to scheduling issues, so sometimes, you can grab a spot or two under this scenario. For the Fall and Spring Carlisle events, there is over 8000 spaces available, but there is no show car spaces.

Over the years, I have gotten to know several members of the Carlisle staff. There is like over 45 full time staff members and then there is like over 250 employees who maintain the buildings, the grounds and work the gates and security. Throughout the year, there is a variety of events scheduled for each week. It is a fine tune machine that is raking in the money, but it is also very labor intensive and those guys during events like Chryslers at Carlisle work some long days.

Hope to see more of guys at Carlisle in July of 2026!

Speaking for myself I usually do a local show or cruise I show up walk it check things out and maybe get something from the food stand and go if there are parts Ill check out the swap meet but I don't make a 8 hour day of it. occasionally if I want to stay longer Ill show my car on the show field etc. at this point for me its networking...if i meet up with a guy or gal with parts or a body and paint shop etc something like that, networking to support the hobby. I do realize thats part of what Carlisle is also :)

One thing about Carlisle, they manage the show extremely well. Bath rooms spot-a-pots kept clean, trash cans constantly empty, trash pick up, areas kept clean. They really know how to do it. Yes fees prices constantly go up but they know how to execute. They might wanna work on expand cooling areas and see if anything can be done with morning traffic jams. But overall they do an outstanding job very well executed.

If you are local to the show, it makes sense to visit and only stay a short time.
Those of us that travelled across the country will want to maximize our time there. Going back to the hotel to wait for the next day wasn't why I went there. It would have been nice if the humidity were about a third of what it was. I'm used to afternoon humidity well below 30%....to the point where it isn't even a consideration. Nobody ever leaned on the venue's people to move the show to the late Spring?

Carlisle doesn't seem to have any interest in moving the show to spring or fall. So maybe like could start expanding improving number of cooling center? Some areas that used to have AC, like vending area under grand stand, seemed like AC was broken or barely working. So instead of improving seemed like they went backwards in that regard.

Then you have ppl like me that pre-register for show field but might not show up due to excessive thunderstorms or excessive heat Carlisle makes their money so there isn't any problem to solve.
