Check him out, some screen shots of him, your right a very likable fellowI met Herb the first time a very long time ago .
It was back when the Nats were at Indianapolis .
We were staying out near the airport in a hotel .
There was this young man that had a black Dart Sport,,or a Duster,,,can’t remember which .
He had a big block with a set of B1 heads on it,,if I remember correctly .
That was a bad machine for sure ,,he proved it while we were there that night .
After he returned from his late night Joust,(,,and emerged victorious ),,, we were in the parking lot and talking about the thrill of the race .
And who do you think drives up and gets out of his car ,,,,,Mr Herb McCandless .
He was driving his late model car,,,an Imperial ,,,it was a sort of light green color ,,if I remember right . A very unusual color,,,at least in my eyes .
He was a genuine person and was interested in hearing about the race and who all did what .
We all stood and talked about cars and performance stuff for a pretty long while.
That was always a good memory for me,,,,and I think about it every time he is mentioned in any article or here on this site.
I met him a couple of more times as the years went by,,at different car related events after that .
He’s really quite an interesting person and an overall great guy !
