GUESS WHAT I FOUND!
i found a carter afb 'compeition series' carb in my girlfriend's brother's old blazer, it was in the floorboard. he said it was a 650. on the front of the base of it, it says '9605S 1154'
i know this is more of a statement than a question...
ok, how about this, anybody know anything about this carb? its obviously not new... since carter doesnt seem to make carbs anymore.
i may use this piece later, it doesnt look like its in bad shape. but im sure id rebuild it before using it.
where does a 650 fall on power levels supported? how can you tell the difference between a mechanical and vaccuum secondary?

They are the same as the Edelbrock Performer series. Its probably a 600 ( I think carter rated them at 625)

It will work fine on your 318 and the edelbrock rebuild kit will work on it.

how much power will it support though? i just put a new 2bbl (carter) on my car, so it will be good for a while. after i get the heads done and a new intake manifold, then ill try out this carb. but i was wondering how far it would take me before id have to go bigger?

It should be good for around 350 horse or so. I run one on my 340.
