Cause of Excessive Smoke after Adding Gas to Tank?

-
You guys really know how to get a guy's brain working. I now remember that when I went to look at / buy the car, it drove well, no issues, but there was a puddle of liquid in one of those depressions on top of the intake manifold. I thought it was oil from the valve cover, and took a little sample on my finger to smell; smelled like oil, but in hindsight it could have been gas. Guess my olfactory cells were off that day due to the COVID mask.

On a sidebar, my computer just crashed, so while rebooting an ad popped up on my cell phone for a 2015 Challenger RT / Scat Pack, hemi with 6 speed. Now that drivetrain in my Dart would transfer all my smoking issues from my engine to the rear tires.

I was thinking of a blown intake gasket, that would account for having to feather it due to a vac leak & the oil burning from oil being sucked in. On the carb I would hook a can of gas to the fuel pump inlet & see how it acts then. Keep us posted!

My 2 cents is everyone is over thinking this. Right of it sounds like the choke is staying closed. Maybe a bad pull off?

Well I think I found the problem; the carburetor. With the car cold, took the air cleaner off, and the top choke plate was open / in a near vertical position. Pulled on the accelerator linkage, and the plate closed / horizontal. Tried staring the car, and it would not. Pressed on the accelerator pedal once, tried starting again, and it started.

Left the car idling, and took the attached pics; no smoking. Drove the car around the block, but without pressing the accelerator pedal, the car was happily cruising along at 20 mph. Had to stomp pedal to slow the revs down. Also noticed signs of leakage from the carb down to the intake manifold.

So how easy is it to rebuild these 2 barrel carbs? What's the best place to get a rebuild kit? What type of carb is this?

I also noticed fumes coming out of the oil cap. Time for a new PCV valve?

Those are pretty simple carbs I believe it is a Carter. Make sure the choke pull off is working. Should pull the plunger back and hold it there after it starts. Also it is responsible for pulling the choke open a little after it starts. My guess is it is going to need adjusting

Also since you admit being green when it comes to carbs. If you can get someone with carburetor knowledge to help and teach you. I would advise doing that.

What causes the choke pull off to operate, engine vacuum?
