My 1973 318 with A904 transmission converter is missing a teeth and the starter spinning on that spot and making bad sound. In Sweden is a converter pricey but a new ring gear is not. So my plan is to change the ring gear, but I am aware of the difficulties with it. My plan is making some sort of jig that the converter lying in and have some sort of stop so the ring gear can be pressed against to stop at the right place. Cut the welds and remove the ring gear and grind down the welds. Put the converter in the freezer over night, next day put the ring gear in the oven to heat up. Then press the ring gear in place and then weld at the four previous spots. This is how my local parts shop told me how to do.
