Hey guys, I'm rebuilding my rv-2 compressor and can't figure out how the gas seal goes. I was wondering if anybody has a service manual showing how it goes on. Thanks

Zombie thread alert, I'm bringing this one back from the dead....
Bob, did you ever rebuild the compressor with success, I have my A/c system done but as I charge it to the correct psi with coolant, it slows the compressor down and starts to spin the belt. The only thing I can think of is maybe there is a valve that's bad inside the compressor that is letting pressure build up where it's not supposed to.
The A/C is cool but not cold because it's only charged to 20psi ( temp at the vent is 55* with the fan on low and 70 with the fan on high. )

Yes, I did get it all put back together, but haven't charged it yet.
There some reed valves in each head of the compressor,and they do rust, but they usually leak pressure, not build it.
The only thing I can think of is when you charge it, don't turn the can upside down. Doing that let's in fluid, not gas. Fluid's don't compress, and that would cause it to lock up.

Thanks for the response, I've rebuilt air compressors before, but never an A/C one (I assume they are mechanically similar). As for the pressure, it slows the compressor as I fill it to the point that it starts to squeal the belt, and the belt is REALLY tight ( like a guitar string ) . I was wondering if it's possible for the high pressure to bleed back into the compressor enough stall it. oh well a little A/C is better than no A/C I'll tackle it when the weather gets cool.

My compressor was extreamly clean inside and there was no noticeable wear in the bores. The reeds were like new. I just replaced the crankshaft gas seal, which was torn, and all the o rings. I cleaned it up and lubed it.
I bought my part's on e-bay from a vender called "texaserick". He had a compressor repair kit with all the seals and the head gaskets. I also bought a o ring kit for all the rest of the system from him too.
Did you rebuild your compressor and clean it really good? You might have gotten contaminats from the other parts of your system. I 've read were compressors get the black death and they lockup from contamination.

the compressor stalling is posible clogged expansion valve .

um..rut roh... I guess I'll have to take the whole thing apart. I replaced the expansion valve, dryer, condenser core ( in front of the rad ), but I don't remember screens at the valve.. woo hoo I have a winter project

if you replaced the expansion valve it had news screens in it. You probably didn't notice them down in there. Takes a sewing needle to pick them out.
Agreed you should have a high pressure gauge.
Rethinking my suggestion also. Totally blocked expansion valve could get a negative reading on the low/suction side .

Are you using r-12 or 134 refrigerant? When I converted mine to 134 the kit said to remove the expansion valve.

Ahh, I'm using 134.... how would one go about "removing" the valve... I understand "wrench etc" 
but is there a little elbo that is supposed to go in where the valve was? Wait, the valve has to be there, so maybe it has to be modified or adjusted?
after a little investigation I may have to adjust the valve??? I'll have to look at the old one if I still have it
