Leaking heater cores are so common I have pondered using something more robust like loops of solid copper tubing. Maybe a small tube-fin tranny cooler would fit, especially in my M-B 300D's where it takes 2 days to change the heater core and new ones cost $400. Mopars aren't as bad and my 3 classics are all non-factory AC so the heater box comes off easy. I did my 69 Dart w/ factory AC years ago and it wasn't trivial. You must vent the refrigerant, unless there is a trick I didn't know.
