Based on advice previous question I posted, I purchased "correct" bolt kit for my 340 manifolds.. There's one oddball bolt/nut circled. Not sure where to place it... Anyone know..??
Thanks..!
Thanks..!
Sorry... Exhaust manifold..Assuming these are intake manifold bolts, I would say the odd one attaches to the driver's side for the throttle return spring bracket. Just a guess.
I thought the 340 exhaust bolt kit came with the sleeved nuts, like the original.I believe that's for the later 340 D.S. manifold, retains the later style heat stove

Obviously that's information we don't need to know. lolI think certain year 340
Yes, the early '68- '72? ish ones did. The later ones didn't use the sleeve nuts.I thought the 340 exhaust bolt kit came with the sleeved nuts, like the original.
The manifolds I have are 71-73, I believe...and they do not use sleeves..Yes, the early '68- '72? ish ones did. The later ones didn't use the sleeve nuts.
Yup, those are the early ones.
Okay, I wasn't exactly sure of the year of the changeover. Somewhere in that range! They were also used on the 360 for a few years after the 340 was discontinued. The manifolds I have are 71-73, I believe...and they do not use sleeves..
Those are the ones I was thinkin of. Thanks, Steve!
And we finally know. LOLThe manifolds I have are 71-73, I believe...and they do not use sleeves..

And we finally know. LOL![]()

Now that I think about it, I think it's for the dipstick tube.
So, back to original question...what's the oddball bolt for..?
As shown in Post 3.

I know... I was just making sure @RustyRatRod was paying attention...lolAs shown in Post 3.
Here. It goes in this hole. The heat stove mounts to the reduced diameter portion of the stud.

Ok, so that holds the bottom portion of the heat shield. Good enough! As shown in Post 3.
