Good morning all! Doing a major overhaul on my 73 Scamp and looking to see what some of you are doing for dash modifications. Being a "Kustom is the only way" kind of guy, My car is by no means "stock" and have the interior completely out of the car dong a major interior upgrade. I have the dash pulled for a repaint and rewire, stereo install, Intellitronix gauge panel, a/c upgrades and steering column. The dash pad will be wrapped with contrast stitching along with full custom interior treatments. Just curious what some of the rest of you are doing to upgrade, update the factory parts and pieces.

Cheap but works on a 64 Dart. Other is a 63 B Belvedere . Crude but works for low bucks.
Sorry for crappy photos I shake a bit.

Not about the custom dash part per se, but while you have everything out, take the time to throw a couple Bulk Pac's of Dynamat Extreme or similar resonation dampening mats on every flat surface. It isn't so good at keeping heat out, but it is great at reducing noise and panel resonnation. And, once the interior is back in, you can't tell it's there.

Then use the double-sided foil covered jute mats to cover the entire interior from headliner, under door panels and on the floor from the bottom of the front windshield to the bottom of your rear glass. I used that peelable wax-paper covered aluminum duct tape to seal all the seams (and there were a lot) AND the edges of the foil mat to the car body.

Once I had it all fitted and covering the entire surface form end-to-end, it looked like a tailor had pieced together probably 45 separate panels including some larger ones to tightly fit it into a continuous covering. I could remove and replace the finished panels that retained the shape of the floor etc. I then taped down the edges to keep it in place.

On my hardtop, it sounded like you were in a vault when you closed the doors after. The road noise was quieter than being in a Bentley when going down the road after that, and the A/C was dramatically more effective. It was also a great vapor and heat barrier. Well worth the time. on a hardtop.

For the double foil covered jute, the best deal I found on it so far is from Speedway motors. For the Dynamat Extreme, I just searched for free shipping and the lowest price on-line, because the stuff is heavy.

On a side note, you don't have to cover an entire panel with Dynamat, rather use it in strips to deaden the panel's resonnation, because the real heat, noise and vapor barrier is the double sided foil mat. I learned this from an article on how to best insulate a small airplane without adding excess weight.

jbc426, I follow the same instructions that you shared on all of my customer's projects. We put down the sound deadener, glue our carpet pad to that and then make the custom carpets per each individual project. The layered benefits are undeniable. I appreciate you sharing this so that if someone else needs pointers, you have already given them. I would like to add one other thing to jbc426 procedures for insulating these cars. PLEASE do not use the foil sided bubble wrap that is used in metal buildings and such. Reason: As soon as you put your feet down on the floor and pop the bubbles, the work you just accomplished is now shot! It is a waste of your time and money. Spend a little more and go for the better products. It'll pay for itself in short order.

My hat is off to all of you for your work and ideas for your own projects! Keep up the great work!

I know how I am doing the dash/ interior of my Scamp but I wanted to see what others are doing. In my line of work you have to keep your eye peeled for new and interesting ideas to continue moving forward. It's a labor of love and I love the labor that it takes.

Kustom or Stock, I love them all!!!

Was originally going to go with this Classic Dash Rallye A-Body bezel with Speedhut Gauges but they are now boxed up for spares, backup plan or maybe a future project... "¯\_(ツ)_/¯" sometime plans change.

Besides my 66 Barracuda dash in my 65 Dart, i also did some custom dash work in my 47 Dodge. From this:

To this and keeping a similar bezel design as the original bezel. The new bezel is made of 5 different parts from several bezels

The speedometer corporates thw tach in it

IMG_9928.jpeg

While the other pod has a voltmeter, the oil pressure, water temperature and gas gauge

Sven the clock located on the glove compartment door got the same treatment

The gauges are from Speedhut in a color that harmonizes with the nee woodgrained dash

I did a Classic Dash in a 72 Challenger for a customer awhile back. I was impressed at the quality and fitment of the parts.

Built my center console out of fiberglass wrapped in stainless steel on the top. Dash I left it stock but might change that soon.
