cylinder head gaskets

Hi ,I will be installing a set of 60779 eddy heads on my 340.Since I got a new set of older perma torque Felpro head gaskets (# 8553 PT ),Can use them instead of the recommended Felpro 1008 head gaskets?
I' ll appreciate your advise.

Is your 340 a early unit with pop up pistons? If so, your good I beileve. You want about .040 clearance between head and piston for use of pump gas and OE rods.

If your 340 has pistons sitting at zero deck, then these gaskets are a bit thick for use. They can be used, but you will loose the bennifit of the quench.
The .039 is a better gasket to use with a zero deck piston.

you need to measure the deck height on your 340 pistons...how much do they stick out of the deck...

once you get the number...you can pick a head gasket to use the close chamber heads and get the correct quench...

but the 8553 gasket can be used ...

Funny, I was getting ready to ask the same question. I have an older 340 with the pistons that stick up out of the block. Anyone else tried this and what gasket did you use??? fst340rt I'm not trying to steal your thread.

the L2316F usually stick out of the block about .008....

Have you physically checked that they are zero deck?

if you have zero deck the 1008 is a better gasket to get you the correct quench...but again...the 8553 head gaskets can be used...

i have a 360 in my duster that the pistons are down in the hole .015 ...i used the MP .024 head gasket to get .039 quench ...

looks like you have the gaskets and want to save a few bucks....

He he he he your right, numbers game.

I like to keep things alittle farther apart with OE rods and such. Bringing it down would require me to get a better _- non-streching rod, lol well, at least compared to the factory stock rod.

Good point 70aarCuda,for zero deck the the top of the pistons were machined...Looks like the 1008 is the way to go. Thank you guys.

I bought a pair of Cometic .027 gaskets, 150.00 for the pair!!!!! A little pricey.
