I'm here
I just bought a set of these from Summit, because they were on sale. Of the cheapie headers, I have found these absolutely the best fitting small block headers for your D - series truck. Passenger side literally drops in from the top and if you don't hang on to it, it will fall all the way to the ground... LOL. Drivers side goes in from the underneath. hey Tim. what brand of gaskets do you suggest for these? Thanks sabre67
I like the ultra seals by Mr. Gaskets (5938) are good, and there are plenty of others. But, you can use the hedman gaskets they provide as well. One thing about a truck, very very easy to replace the gasket.
  • JUST DON'T USE SPEEDMASTERS .... lol

Anyone know just how bad the bigblock manifolds are ? Do headers make that much of a difference if you’re not building a high winding engine ?

If you don't plan on racing it or the such, manifolds will serve you just fine. Some like headers even in these situations because it helps them run their own dual exhaust easier.

i'm more in on it because my manifolds are cracked. and all the manifolds i've found are also cracked.

i've got a 383 2bbl, i don't think that i'll pick up *that* much, but at least it won't sound like the top end is coming apart and maybe i get some power as a bonus.

How does that work with the "temporary paint"? I understand that it is there only to prevent rusting before installation, but what do you do after it has burned off? Take them back off and paint them with a better high temp paint? Just asking for future reference. I'm gonna need small block headers eventually for my tin grille.

You can do it that way, That's how I did it on the last set of hedmans I installed on my van. Or remove the paint before installing and paint them.

shipping says mine will be here tomorrow. Store them till I have a need i guess :)

Same header I used and can confirm they basically fall in. The passenger side on mine needed a small frame clearance to keep from rattling. I nipped like 1/4” of over a 6” length.

As for gaskets, the flanges and welding on the hedmans leaves a lot to be desired. I used a few different gaskets before finding one that worked. @Turbo440Dart gave me this Mr.gasket aluminum set and they are the cats ***.
