D150 with a RV 440, just to see what it will run

-
I had a fit of cabin fever last night and did a deep dive and, FWIW, found an interesting write up on the cam specific to the RV440 over on for B bodies by @Wyrmrider. 284 degrees @.004 intake on a 114 with a +3 degree advance ground in. And some mention of a late exhaust closing making what amounts to built in EGR and more intake charge burning in the exhaust manifolds than in the cylinders making the exhaust manifolds glow under extended periods of load. I’m glad I don’t have any money riding on my guess…

BTW, my guess of 15.20 is for a quarter mile, not an eighth... I'm not sure the guys guessing 13s are clear on that!
JK- it will be interesting.
I think they are aware… ha!

kinda boring, the juice ain't worth the squeeze.

fast or slow, it's how you are doing with what ya got. I'm more impressed with a 16.9 slant six 1 bbl that's stock in a 2.76 geared Duster than a 9 second flat full blown hemi dragster. One is "fast" for what it is and the other is "slow" for what it is. I one time worked with a 2.2 reliant (non turbo). Can you believe I got it to go 17.7's ???? LOL...

IF/When I build the 440, it will be cost effective but that doesn't mean I won't spend some money. We may be talk'n pistons, heads, cam, etc. Who knows... while the 5.9 is out, I may build a stout 408 out of it and put it back in there... LOL. At this time, I just want to make a pass how it is and let a plan develop.
When and If that time comes, 10:1 with template porting and blending the short side and guides in the 452's and 2.08/1.74 valves (about 250 cfm @ .650) along with a good cam and rocker package and a performer rpm topped with an 850 would probably make it as quick as you'll want it to go.

If you’re on a budget, and you’ve got a steel crank shortblock. Ross dome pistons are reasonably priced. A SFT say 246/246 510+ your 4.30:1 axle and some bowl work on your 452 castings.
Probably build it for 3k.

The problem is we all know what a built 440 will do. There are tons of examples to pull info from. NONE of us know what a stock MH440 will do. That’s why this is so interesting.

correct. If I change the cam, heads, cut the deck, then we walk away from the whole purpose behind what I'm doing. But don't worry, it's mine and were not! LOL

I'm figuring just under the 12 second mark to the mid 11's. Seems like the next logical step for a new goal in it.
That’s a big windshield and grill. If he builds his engine and gear combination for a rank 1/8 mile I can see a decent 440 taking that truck to an 11.99 in the 1/4.

Most of the ground needs to be consumed by some strong second gear acceleration.

We’re not going to see anything like that happen with the present test, but it shows what it’s capable of when you add compression, heads, and camshaft. Gotta love that off the line torque!
