this came from a 2003 dakota i'm told.trac lok is good and gears are in real nice shape.it's a 29 spline.250.00 plus the ride from ga.30052.pm me if interested,thanks

Will this work in a A body 8 1/4? I'm asking because I thought the cars had a different spline count.

Pre 96 Dakota is 27spline, post 96 Is 29 spline. Your A-Body uses 27 Spline.

More splines=more strength but also more diameter outside of splines. Splines are usually cut at the same size in axle to axle applications. Aftermarket custom axles are available for about anything you can think of, if you're willing to pay for them. Check your outer bearing and seal part numbers at Rock Auto to confirm the outer shaft is the same (I checked a while back and believe they are). If it's post 96, looking for a set of A body length 8-1/4 axles cut for later splines. Talk to Dr. Diff, Moser, or Strange. One overlooked advantage of aftermarket axles is they aren't tapered like factory axles, but cut to a beveled angle step down at the splines.

the guy i got it from said it came from a 93 dakota but i've counted the splines 5 times and it's 29 spline so i'm not sure what the deal is,kent

A 93 would be 27 spline. But that rear could have been changed out at sometime in the past with a later model.
