So I got this motor on trade and when I pulled it apart I found 2 pistons with top land damage. They are SRP forged flat tops. I was just wondering what would cause this kind of damage. Maybe got hot and seized in the bore? Or maybe just to tight clearance.

Ring ends butted together. I would check them all very closely. In fact, I wouldn't run any of them just because.

Ah ok I will check a couple of the ring gaps just for my curiousity. One piston had a valve drop but when I tore it down I found these other 2 also. So am trying to decide if I buy 3 new pistons or a complete set. It has been internal balance +.040 360 so I would like to keep pistons as close to the same weight to keep rebalancing to a minimum.

All the more reason for a complete set, IMO.

This guy put 'regular' in, but only once! You may of had a lean condition or a timing issue possibly. There is a hint of the top ring rubbing ends like RRR suggests also.

Lifted and melted the ring lands at the thinnest spots, lean, anywhere else...end gap gap issue as well.

Just curious , which cylinders were those ?
