I finally changed out the doorseal / windlace on the 65 Dart. It all fit in quite nicely and looks great. HOWEVER; now I can't shut the door!

Well, I can but have to slam it pretty hard. The new seal is taller and fresh, rather than the 45 year old, collapsed, shredded seal.

Adjustment? it looks like I have to move the entire door out 1/4 or so. It will no longer be flush. I think it will look like crap.

Anyone else run into this? what did you do to solve it? thanks

There are adjustments that can be performed to let the door shut and seal properly inside the door panel. It's hard to help very much over the net. I installed the same seals as you did years ago and have never got around to adjusting the doors. My boss said I can adjust it out (he is in auto glass so am I now) to seal better than it does.

When I replaced the seals on my '57 Plymouth sedan the new seals made the doors and trunk really hard to shut. I just left it like it was and after a few days the seals did flatten out some...After a few more days the seals formed better and the doors were back to being like they were supposed to be.

5 years later my driver's door seal needs to be replaced again from opening and closing the door soo often....

sorry. 2 dr. sedan (65 dart). got the seals from rockauto.

65 dart had cloth windlace around the rear qtr window. A 64 Valiant I had had a rigid vinyl piece instead of the fabric windlace. It was the same plastic "u" that is used around the later A door edges. I just painted some that I had to match. worked great.

I'm having the same issue (64 dart vert). I put the same windlace in months ago and was told they would "break in," but no luck so far. I am only having an issue on the driver's side. I think I'll drive it to a body shop and pick their brain (assuming they have at least half a brain to begin with).

I replaced all of the weatherstripping on my W100 and had to slam the doors to get them to latch. My neighbor has worked for years at a body shop doing insurance work. He says that many customers complain because the new door seal almost knocks them over when they open it. He said give it a week or so out in the sun and the doors shut like new. He is right, my truck doors shut and seal perfect.

well I used seals from a chevy s-10 and had the same problem,i had to move the doors and the fenders away from the body at the cowl are just a lil' bit helped wonders
