Dartin for Divorce

Drill, tap, installation tool, great instructions, nice case, and just about a "lifetime" supply of inserts. Not too expensive if you plan on playing with older US cars a lot! I bought a 5/16-18 kit and a 3/8-16 kit about 30 years ago and they have saved the day more times than I can count.

I would install the cam bolts with the bolt head on the outside as long as you don't have any interference, the bolt head handles the adjustment, it will be easier than working a ratchet on the inside with less clearance. at least my 02 worth.
you can get a couple of helicoils at a-zone with a tool and bit for less than 25 bucks depending on size, look in their tool section, you can also just buy the helicoils if you have a tap

So I rented a tap and die, seems like it was already pretty much threaded for a 3/8 x 16 bolt, so I'm going to get one from the store now.

Slow day didnt do much after the tapping because my wife ordered some bathroom stuff that I had to put together.

Switched the caliper because i was told it was on the wrong side. Got the new bolt, they only had 3/4in in length so I put a washer in between the bolt and hardware, sucker isnt going anywhere. Bent the metal hose portion to get no binding at full right or left turn and eventually i imagine I'll have to get 69 camaro brake lines.

Looks good though I think

Ooh more goodies showed up in the mail! (I'm going to end up with a lifetime supply of these!)
Going to see if I can find the bolts to my old snubber and maybe those will fit the new snubber. Also debating on if i should do the MC tonight, i dont have the best lights in the garage but could probably manage.

Still waiting on bushing. I wonder if I should call PST again, if I should just order a new one or use one of my old ones.

Probably will start on the MC and proportioning valve tomorrow. I need to do a little more reading on the whole setup before taking it all apart, that way I'm not going in blind to what im supposed to do.

Do you have calipers mounted with bleeder at top? If not you are going to have trouble bleeding. First picture shows it at top but other don't.

I had it with bleeder at the top but was told to switch it to the current position due to where the brake hose attaches.

I saw the other thread where you got the correct way to mount them is bleeder on top, Joe

I believed you I did, but wanted a majority general consensus. That way I dont have to keep redoing them haha.

I keep being told to get new hoses. Bleh. These are brand new, I want to use them :steering: plus for the cost of new rubber hoses at napa/autozone I could have SS ones made.

no problem just wanting to head off any problems trying to bleed brakes. I enjoy reading your thread and your determination to get it right. Good for you!

Heres today's so far

Calipers swapped again, Mc off, pushrod off, debating if I should use 1 or 2 O-rings on the end of it thanks again @69_340_GTS for the o-rings! Ordered 69 camaro brake lines just so they are correct and I have no binding.

I'll bleed the new MC then install it and I think the proportioning valve just gets installed where the distribution block is and 1 electrical output for the brake system warning then the other on this proportioning valve just goes to a ground. (If I read it correctly on a different thread

Why Camaro brake lines?

Why Camaro brake lines?

Because I keep getting told that these brake lines are incorrect and that camaro brake lines will not bind and will fit better due to not having the metal sleeve where near the caliper, including by Dr Diff as this is what he recommends. (second picture is the 73+ charger lines that would work too)

I bet with 2 o-rings you'll never get it to go in. The o-ring needs someplace to squish into, hence the wider groove. It's only a friction-fit (into the M/C) anyways.

Operation bench bleed MC failed hard tonight. The little plungers that came in the MC didnt seal well enough and air bubbles kept getting in and brake fluid came out.

Maybe next time it'll go a little better

Inserted the U-joint into the 3rd member to see if it was the correct size, and I do not think it is.

Maybe things will start to go more smooth... wait nothing has gone smooth in regards to me fixing or replacing anything in this car yet

I measured like 5x this morning (just finished) heading to the DS shop now. Here are the measurements I came up with on both the yoke on the 8.75 and the joint on the DS. Ps that's a 3 1/8in on the joint outer distance

I am going to have the DS made at 52in. Per previous threads it should be 51.99in and my measurement was at 53.25in, then subtract 1in like dr diff says to do on his site puts it at 52.25in. But I didnt have the weight of the car on the suspension due to not being able to install the drivers side lca because I'm still waiting on my new bushing and I'd rather not use my old bushing

Driveshaft shop says they can reuse my slip yoke and u-joint, then probably my rear u-joint as well. I can pick the shaft up on Monday because they need to order a new weld yoke (what ever that is lol) and it will be a new shaft that is 2.25in shorter.

I'm stoked it's not as expensive as they said it would be on the phone either

Ooh another tid bit of information that was kind of interesting to see, but not any bit of excitement with it.

When I did the calipers and front hoses the passenger side hose and main line was pouring (not literally just a steady dripping/flow from gravity) brake fluid until it was screwed back into the caliper. This is good means I'm getting brake fluid there and the brake will work.

However when disconnecting the drivers side hose no fluid...none.. the inside of the line is slightly wet but there is no flow of fluid. So who knows if the front drivers drum was actually engaging, which isnt a fun thought, especially with the kids in the car.
My new hoses will be here tomorrow, I will install the MC (it will be bled tomorrow as well) and hopefully proportioning valve(which I want to flush before installing). I know you should start with bleeding your brakes with the farthest brake from the MC but I'm going to start with the drivers side caliper first. This will allow me to test if the hard line is clogged or if the front drivers side wasnt bled properly last time.

Camaro lines on, MC bench bled and installed. I didnt screw in the metal plate I used a little gasket seal to hold it on unless I can find a little plastic backing plate that is meant to hold the boot on the reproduction MC.

I couldn't get the metal lines off the stock Distribution block tonight, the wrench just was strpping the fittings. Drenched the lines in pb blaster and I'll try again tomorrow, if that doesn't work well... sucks to be me except for the fact that I got the cutest helper in the world.

Still no new bushing in the mail today. I am so close to just using the old one.
