I'm building my 74 dart swinger..all lights, gauges and signal indicators and switch worked fine..i removed the cluster and painted it and installed leds bulbs...put in a new dash pad..changed the dash from green to black..put the column back in place...now the lights work except for the turn signal indicators and when you crank the car the started stays engaged until you pull the battery cable....same column as before, same cluster...i welded in new classic industries floor pans..have new carpet, door panels,headliner,etc...cant firgure out what happened in the dash..any help will be appreciated...thanks

Did you replace the ground from dash to chassis?

Also welding can burn all kinds of things on the other side of the panel.

Check the wiring from the signal switch/ignition switch in the column that travels down the length of the column and then into a connector in the under dash wiring harness. It is very easy to pinch this off and short out the wiring if you are not careful.

Most LED bulbs are polarized, did you check the cluster for operation before you installed it? the indicators are simply tapped off the output of the TS switch. The PC board connector, the PC board where the sockets contact, and the sockets and bulbs themselves are the "usual suspects."

So far as you starting problem, first thing is to find out if the starter relay is sticking or if the trouble is in the control circuit. Crank the thing in neutral until the problem shows. Then put the shifter in drive and see if the relay drops out. That will kill power to the relay (the ground, actually) If the engine still cranks, the relay might be sticky

well guys..i learned a lesson...i pulled the cluster, inspected the wiring harness, everything looked fine..all lights including the turnsignals and dimmer light worked on the car before i rebuilt the dash..ive had the car 7 years...pulled the light sockets and leds, checked them, they all burned..put it all back..hooked up the ground on the steering column...0ne turn signal light worked the other made the oil light get dim and bright, the high beam light didnt work...even though everything worked on the outside of the car...i pulled the cluster..replaced the leds back with the original bulbs...everything works perfect,lol....

And now you know who I always say don't use LEDs!

Congrats!

If the bulbs are new and you are not 16 years old. They will be working long after you are gone!

Unfortunately Bill, that doesn't mean that you located the problem. The led's may not have caused the problem , it could have been a poor or incorrect connection that you eliminated by simply removing and re-installing the cluster. LED's, when installed correctly, can be much brighter and put less load on the electrical system . Every new vehicle made uses them.

Like AAndrews said, I bet it was poor ground, if you add another, or 2 grounds I would remove the easiest bulb to access and replace with led. See what happens?
LEDs in our 67 dash, no issues.
