Dash Radio Cut-Out Fix Ideas needed!

PO butchered my radio cut-out on my 76 Dart.
Any ideas on best fix short of removing the entire dash?

Look just like my 73 Duster
When I get to the interior I think someone makes a cutout repair piece for Mustangs. I intend to use one to mig into my dash - the cutout should be very similar and I already found the woodgrain trim that should do nicely to conceal the repair.
 
I have the same deal in my 66. I plan to clean up the mess and holes as much as possible, then cut out two thin plates of the correct size and shape to sandwich the existing dash cutout. I plan to secure the plates to each other with teeny bolts then mount the two-shaft radio. We shall see how this comes out but I figured it's worth a shot to not pull the dash.
 
Just cut out an appropriate sized piece of metal, cut the opening the right size, drill the two shaft holes and spot weld it to the dash. Done.

The sammich is a good idea, too, but if you use the same thickness metal as the dash, just one layer would work fine.
 
Can the dash be removed without removing the glass?
Is the end game a 2 post radio, or a flat dash?

Simple solution, with a radio, I like the sammich.

The 'right' way, remove dash, if possible.

I would take a fairly large drill bit and drill a hole on each corner of the mess, then cut straight lines between them.

It's easier, and cleaner, to weld around a corner, as small as it may seam, than to weld a 90 degree corner.

Wires, insulation, cardboard, have a hose or extinguisher ready.

I had the same issue, bigger hole, I replaced the dash, but I did buy a parts car.
 
Look on E Bay.
There is someone there selling metal repair plate for them.
Has proper cutout area and knob replacement holes.

You could get the deluxe woodgrain bezel and matching glove box, drill the appropriate mounting holes and cover it up?

And looking under the radio, I see metal that is wasted on mine.
The hard part is finding a standard dash!! I had to HUNT to find a replacement standard dash. You can add those parts easily enough. The parts that changed the most are the heater controls. '72 had pushbuttons, for example.

You can get the deluxe panel cheaply and just drill all the mounting holes. It's not a precision deal.
 
Only the ac cars had push button climate controls.. 67-76. The heater only cars are still 2 slides 67-76

I don't think it can come out without removing the dash.

End game is something that does not look like hammered dog dodo right in my face!

The flat part is bad, but I could do something with it.
The curved part right above the ash tray looks like Edward Scissorhands.

The problem is that metal is thin and is way harder to weld on than it looks, very hard to get a good weld without it burning through
I'm sorry. I'm gettin senile. I fixed a mutilated dash, but it wasn't Vixen. It was the 63 Dart I had before her.
