Who is knowledgeable on 8-3/4" casting date codes??? This is my 69 340 Cuda 3rd member. Pretty sure it is not original, but date code is not completely legible.
Thx
Jim

They still used the 741 rear in 1969. Not sure about the date info though. Maybe J 21 is late 1968 which would be for early 69 model year?

Which year did they started with the four digit date code?

Sorry, I don't know definitive dates but when crossover changes happen (from model year to model year) unless it's some sort of government mandate like the headrests in Jan. 1969 I'm sure there's some carryover of leftover parts.

So if J 21 is september 21 there is nothing there to give you a year. So it could be september 21 of 1964 to 1972.

Assuming they started a 4 digit date code from 69 on it could be a 64 to 68 housing.

As the OP stated, SPD is Dec 1968. That makes the car a 1969. The original motor would have a 1968 date so J 21 being Sept. 1968 makes sense. Just because they started 4 digit dates in 1969 does not on it's face mean that 1969 Model Year parts were only made in 1969.
