So while rebuilding my carb I got a little carried away and messed with some settings on the carb. Now im having a hard time dialing in the carb settings. :banghead:

I have a 1974 360 with edelbrock rpm cam and intake everything else is stock. With an edelbrock performer 600cfm carb. 12 deg advanced timing.

Could some of you post pics of the settings of your carb? I just need to get a ballpark idea.

I'm looking for:
Electric choke position
Idle screw position
fast idle screw position
Idle mixture screw positions

Thanks for the help!

This has all the adjustment procedures, choke adustments, as well as a trouble shooting chart.

1.5 turn out on the idle screws
15/16 to 1" on the floats
Idle at 8-900 or so, and a high idle at about 1200

This should get you in the ballpark.

I'm looking for:

Electric choke position

Start midway.

Idle screw position

Turn it to the cam and a little bit more (1/2) turn.

fast idle screw position

Same as above. You can adjust from there.

Idle mixture screw positions

LIGHTLY bottom them out and turn 1 and 1/2 turns out, that's a good starting point.

Thanks for the help!

Here's some stuff for you to check out.

So here is an update:

After a lot of adjusting I couldn't get the engine to idle at a low RPM. I finally pulled the carb and noticed that it was leaking fuel on the inside so I did another rebuild, but this time followed the instructions close as best I could. I have a few questions but I'll put that in another thread.

One thing I noticed was that the instructions had me set the electric choke 2 lines above the middle line. On my carb that made it too lean. When I changed it to 2 lines bellow the middle line it fired up right away!

The other thing was I had to burb the coolant using this method.

Then I had to mess around with the settings on my perma-cool fan control unit. I was disappointed at how you adjust the temp at which the fans turn on, no feedback and the screw just keeps turning. (I plan on making my own later on)

Well It also turned out that I had my fan's polarity reversed (pushing air from engine bay out the front) so I will be fixing that later on as well. But for now it stays at a normal temp at idle while parked.
