I'm needing a new speedometer cable for my 66 Barracuda. Was a 273 with a 904, swapped to a 5.9 with a 727. It looks like the cable for the 727 and 904 should be the same length, but Rock Auto shows 2 different lengths. Can't figure out why. The original cable was broken, so I can't measure it's length. Anyone have an idea which one I should order? Pretty sure it's the shorter one...

The 63 inch cables, ATP #Y804 or Pioneer #CA3002 is the replacement cable for the original Chrysler #2661733 62 inch cable for a 1966 car.

The listed 83 inch cables have the same ends, but are an erroneous listing for the vehicle. RockAuto, and others, often generalizes older vehicle part fitment nowadays, at times incorrectly, either themselves or based on manufacturer/vendor information passed to them. Both Pioneer and ATP list the cables this way, so RockAuto is passing along that information.

Why ATP and Pioneer, and possibly others, list this way is unknown, but by speculating, it could be they misinterpreted Chrysler's information about replacement cables and cable/housings. Chrysler lists the 2661733 as cable with housing for the vehicles. Chrysler also lists a cable, or shaft, package for just replacing the inner cable (or core, or shaft) as part number 2448294 which is 80 inches long as a universal replacement. This part was used as a service part into the 2000s.

ATP and Pioneer are now part of the same parent company since 2017.

Oreilly also sells the wrong length. Looks like a mistake at a cable manufacturer that has never been corrected.

I remember using the cable kits in a vehicle or 3.. Cut to same length as OEM, stake the end on. Reuse the sheath.

Thanks guys. I knew you all would know this one.
