Hey guys

looking to put discs on the front of the valaint. I have a donor 1979 volare that has complete braking system still on it. just looking for a solid answer on what parts are needed to do the swap? Im thinking i could use the proportioning valve, calipers, rotors, spindles. Anyone have experience doing this and can give me advice on what else would be needed to use this stuff on my car? I plan on going 5x4.5 all around and my 340 / 4 speed swap is underway.

Also the volare has a 8 3/4 rear on it, hoping to use that as well.

Any advice is appreciated

Thanks!

You can swap that over with '73-'76 disc brake A-body upper control arms and ball joints. Might want to grab the master cylinder and lines although I believe you need an adapter plate to fit the master cylinder.

Pretty sure that 8.75" axle wasn't available on F-bodies, so measure it to see what you have. Worst case is you might have to cut off the spring perches and weld new ones on. Also, you will have to shorten the driveshaft.

You can use the brakes off the F body on the Valiant. The spindles are 3/8 inch taller than the same system on 73-76 A body cars, but it won't make any difference. You'll need to get a front end alignment anyway when you install new ball joints. I do not know if F body upper control arms are the same as late A body upper control arms....and if they aren't you will need to find some big ball joint late A body upper control arms. Use a master cylinder from a 73 or 74 Valiant with manual disc brakes and it should bolt right on. Use the proportioning valve from the F body. Measure the 8 3/4 that is in the F body and compare it to the chart in the link below to determine how it will fit in the Valiant.

An accurate 8 3/4" rear axle width list

F bodies never came with 8.75's, so if that's in there give it a good look and see what's up.

anyway their beefy axle was the 8.25 and it was slightly wider than the A and had the goofy spring isolators-- you can eliminate that mess, but just something to keep in mind.
