Rookie question here - I'm swapping distributors on my 340 and the new unit is about 90 degrees off. In other words, when I insert the distributor into the key in the intermediate shaft, the body of the new one is a quarter turn away from where the old one sat. Is this an issue, and how do I adjust if necessary? Thanks,
Bill

two things...rewire the cap to reflect where No. 1 is now located....Or move the intermediate shaft to get No. 1 back to where it is now..

as you can see how I move the intermediate shaft to get the rotor pointing to where it "should be"...put it can point anywhere as long as you move No. 1 plug wire on the cap to No. on the rotor...and continue with the correct firing order...

Wow - thanks for the quick and complete reply! I'm not sure how complicated it is to lift and re-position the intermediate shaft in an assembled engine, and get it right (I have bad memories from re-installing a /6 distributor after rebuild). Seems like the easier option is just to drop the dizzy in and shift all the plug wires, right?

big screw driver and turn it clockwise..it will come up the cam gear....and it usually takes a couple shots to get it in the right place....Have you engine at TDC NO. 1 firing....

Moved the intermediate shaft, piece of cake - just like you said. Thanks!
