A couple of my dumb neighbors got scammed by similar kids recently, and one lady was duped for $450.oo worth of magazine orders, and after that the kid made a pass at her.

I personally run them all off every time they come to my place and I'm getting no soliciting signs cause there are so many of these idiots now and you hear alot of stories of home invasions from groups of phoney solicitors.
I ran off two thug looking men who claimed to be from the cable company and were asking way too many questions and even grabbed my door and tried to come in.
I told him to let go of the door and get off my property before I grab this glock and pump you full of new holes, while I had my other hand behind my back.
They got out of there quick, and I called the company right away who denied anyone was out soliciting.

Here is an email I got from an adjacent neighborhood watch lady.

Dear Neighbors,
I wanted to make you all aware of an incident we had at our home yesterday ( 8/03/09). It was about 5:30pm, I was in the basement with the kids and my husband was upstairs in the kitchen. I heard the doorbell ring, but when my husband didn’t call for me I figured he handled whatever it was. About 10 minutes later I went upstairs and saw my husband sitting at the kitchen table with a young man (white male in polo shirt and jeans, about 19 – 22 years old). My husband was writing him a check. I walked over and asked what was going on. My husband said “this is B******, they just moved into the neighborhood recently and he is a student at UGA raising money for the school band”. I was very confused because I am pretty up on who lives in our neighborhood (with only 74 homes it’s not that difficult) and as far as I knew there was no “B****” in the neighborhood. I looked at him and asked where exactly he lived in the neighborhood. He said ### ****** Drive – 2nd home on the left. I went and pulled out the neighborhood directory and I know who lives in that house and it has not changed ownership in the past 5 years. I then continued through the directory and told him there was noBurton in the neighborhood and that he does not live there. He was very confident and explained that they had only moved here 6 months ago and since he lives away at school he may have the address wrong. He said since they are so new to the neighborhood, they aren’t in the directory yet. I confronted him further by saying the directory is brand new and just came out last week. He said it must be a mistake and he will have his mother look into it. I asked him for his home phone number because I wanted to call his mother and he said he didn’t remember the number and his mother’s cell phone was off right now so that wouldn’t help. He also went on to say that his mother was good friends with Diane ***** (my neighbor) and that she could vouch for him. I called Diane but unfortunately there was no answer at her house. This went on and on. He sat at our kitchen table and told lie after lie and was as confident as he could be. He said he would get his mom and be back in about an hour and get the check from us at that time. He had an answer for everything I confronted him about. I told him point blank “your story isn’t adding up” and he wasn’t flustered one bit. We asked him to leave our house and he had the nerve to ask what other homes he should visit. We said “NONE – everyone here is very suspicious of solicitors and until you can get your mom to confirm that you live here, we wouldn’t recommend he go to any other homes.” He said “ok, I understand and can I have a bottle of water.”

After he left I got in touch with my neighbor (the one his mother is supposed to be great friends with) and she said she has no idea who he is. She said he came to her house and said he was with Milton H.S. He told her a whole different story and got a $20.00 check from her. He was a VERY good scammer. We think he used UGA with us because my husband is an alum who answered the front door with a UGA visor on his head. Diane probably had something “Milton H.S.” around her house that he picked up on.

We called 911 and the Milton Police came out. This part shocks me the most. They stopped the boy and ran his name. They said there was nothing on him in the system and there was nothing they could do except tell him to leave the neighborhood. I was shocked. I said he was obviously lying and scamming people out of money and the police officer said the problem is it is similar to a “used car salesman”. They can say anything they want and try to get you to give them money. It’s a “buyer beware” situation. I still don’t completely understand how this isn’t illegal and why this boy wasn’t arrested, but bottom line is PLEASE BE CAREFUL who you let into your house and give money to. This is a perfect example of why I am so “over the top” about soliciting in Milton. People here are so trusting and generous and we are easy to take advantage of. The officer also said that they had gotten a lot of phone calls over the past few days about this “group”. He then explained to me that the “group” usually busses kids in from South Fulton. They give them the books and magazine subscription forms and anything else they need to make it look legit. He said this wasn’t just this one boy working on his own. It’s a whole group running a larger scam.

Please be careful and don’t buy anything from solicitors. There is no way to tell who is legit and who isn’t in my opinion.

Glock um! LOL

I live out in the middle of no where so I don't get many uninvited guests. But I have been getting a ton of telimarketers calling me at work. Around 5-10 a day. and I cant even ***** them out because they are recordings.

yeah. you dont let people in your house around here. i either dont answer the door. or answer it with my dog next to me. he barks so much they cant get a word in.

Actually it was a H+k Usp .40, but any dumbazz of the street knows what a Glock is compared to H+K. ha, ha.

I, too, live in the sticks. For good reason, I hate people.

We don't get that type of solicitor, but we have had those damn JW's :thebirdm: come to the door. But, at least I've found a remedy to their visits. Just put a blood donor sticker on your door, they won't bother you again.

This seems to be getting a lot worse these days. I live in a high traffic, kinda crappy area and they used to stop by pretty often. I was in the garage when the last one stopped by, I guess he thought I wouln't do anything if he tried to get in and take stuff. I grabbed the axe above the side garage door and chased his butt around the block. they keep doing crap like this because the cops don't do anything!

Lol! We have the "Make my Day" law here. Anyone tries to force their way, you can let them have it. Sorry to hear of your troubles out there and it's really a bad deal that the cops won't stop it. This has been an ongoing scam for years with band candy and magazines.

Don't axe me no questions.....:toothy10: I have an axe in my garage for just such circumstances as well.

Lots of JW and Mormons out here trying to get people to convert. Maxi body slamming the door usually gets the point across.

I've chased a few Jehova's Weirdo's away as well.

If you even so much as "act" nice to them, they will hound you every Saturday.

Oh I cant stand those people. My first question is always "Cant you read" We have a sign at the entrance to the subdivision that says no solicting. I dont care if you are a jehovah or a guy who wants to give me a price to clean my gutters... leave me the hell alone! If I need you I'll call you. One stopped by a couple days ago and interupted my dinner. I was NOT happy!

Since I bought a Hi Point 9mm I have it in hand when I answer the door. I have only had one mystery knocker and they was from a church ... JW probably. I looked out the door before I opened it and saw a big African American standing there and someone (caucasian) behind him. When I opened the door I had the door knob in one hand and the gun in the other. I got their attention real fast! I think next time I will put the gun in my back waist band so not to scare the crap out of them. I told them I'm not taking any chances with all the home invasions going on. They said I don't blame you and it is terrible that we have to live like this. I told them I wasn't interested and sent them on there way. Most of the time it is a church group (with kids) walking around knocking on doors wanting people to come to church or vacation bible school. I don't open the door with a gun in hand for them because I can tell who they are.

My dad...he's 67...he tells them...i'm busy...which he is..always doing something on his 67 D100 in the driveway. They always ignore the "I'm busy" part...they ramble on...then he looks over his bi-focals and says the samething....everytime....

"Get the F*@*^ out of here"

...they do.....

Aloha means GOODBYE!

Years ago the JW's would stop by about once every 2 months, even after repeatedly telling them to scram. I was getting ready to get in the shower when there was a knock on the door, I look out the window and saw 2 guys in white shirts, black tie and slacks with their little black books. So I answered the door completely naked and invited them in. They did not even utter a word and left. I think I'm now on the do not knock list.

Whilst housesitting for friends in the middle of nowhere(no neighbors for over a mile in any direction), I heard a knock at the door on a Saturday morning. I wasn't expecting visitors, I rolled off the couch and answered the door in just a pair of boxers with a shotgun in hand. The three JW's standing at the door were suitably shocked, to say the least.

ah ya... i hate them... doesnt matter who they are, what religion they are, what they are selling I am not buying at my door. If I want something I will either go get it, go find it, or contact you for it. Does anyone have problems with companies trying to sell meat out of the back of a fridge truck ?? These are the worst... one time I got a knock at my door at 10 p.m. ... I looked out at the truck and opened the door. The first thing I said was " If you really want to open your mouth and ask me to buy meat out of the back of a truck at 10 p.m. you got another thing coming" ..... he turned and walked away.
Another big one that irritates the crap outta me is this group that goes around selling some kind of "natural organic cleaner".... they are pushy and try to weezle their way into your house, your garage or anywhere. I told them I wasnt interested and they sprayed the crap on my front window and started scrubbing it with a s.o.s. pad..... "see it takes water spots off" they said.... ya there wasnt any water spots there and they proceeded to scratch my window. Prime opportunity for a *** kicking.

On a funny note about solicitors....... I used to know someone that had a BIG bad looking German sheparard dog. The dogs name was in some other language and I think it was spelled " Shu'zn or something like that.... it was pronounced weird... so this person just called the dog "shoes on". When a solicitor came to the door they would simply say to them... " oh pardon me while I get Shoes on........... lol ..... solicitors left real quick.

...am I ranting ?? or raving ?? I hear my rants get raves.....
