Hello fellow Mopar lovers.

I am new to the forums and would like to ask for some help to get me started.

Working on a 67 Barracuda convertible - stock 273 (gone), 904 trans, 8 3/4 posi.

I am looking for suggestions on good donor cars/trucks for temporary drop in 360 and transmission. What I am looking to do is find a running setup that will be appropriate for a mild/mid buildup at a later date. I am guessing that most if not all 360's will be mated to 727s (please correct me if I am wrong) if this is true what is involved in replacing a 904 with a 727 (driveshaft, tranny mounts, clearances, etc.)? Are there any likely 360/904 combos?

Any help will be appreciated. Thanks

Edit: Posted in the driveline forum due to the tranny info needed - if it belongs elsewhere please delete or move.

A 360 is a good choice, the mounts are the same on the 727 but the driveshaft will need to be shortened.

If you get one out of a truck, the truck will have a rear sump pan so you will need to get a different oil pan and pick up tube.

a donor car 73 and up will have a spool mount K and other goodies that a truck can't provide. The optimum donor would be a 360 car. A truck 360 will need oil pan, exhaust manifolds, etc.., for a car.

Great info - thanks.

Looks like I'll be searching for some mid 70's Cordovas - mmmm corinthian leather.

A truck or van engine and tranny to build would work. Aftermarket oil pans, headers, everything you'll need is out there. You'll need to decide if you want a donor "vehicle" for other parts ( a-body and most likely 318 ) or a donor engine and trans. Good hunting
