Why do that? I can see no advantage and wouldn’t it weaken the fastener?

Fascinating stuff, but I can see no practical use for these. Sometimes taking an idea to fruition is its own reward, but seriously, I can't see any application for these. Hats off to the creator for an interesting concept.
