driveshaft length

I just pulled out my 7 1/4 rearend and installed an 8 1/4. It's in a 1968 Dart with a 904 transmission. It seems the drive shaft is a little long. Does anyone know if there is one that is the right length?

you must take 2 1/4 inches out of the driveshaft when going from a 7 1/4 to an 8 1/4 .not sure of any interchange...

According to my info the difference between 7.25 and 8.25 housings is 1.25 The 8.75 rear difference is even more. That may be where the 2.25 stated above comes from.
