While cleaning up the axle from my project, I found some factory alphanumeric markings I would like to replicate. I am not creating a concours restoration, just would like to preserve as much originality as possible.

Has anyone here had any success in creating a rubber stamp to recreate these markings? How did you do it? It appears that the markings are "G14" and "129V". Anyone know what these might mean? Thanks in advance for any help! L8r

Take some good photos and measurements.

Go to hobby lobby, Michaels etc and see what comes close.

Or use one of the 1000 online stamp companies.

I made a stamp for the lid of the one field wire voltage regulators.

It came out spot on. I even duplicated the odd spacing of some of the letters.

My problem was the paint / ink.

Orange on black. And the text is really small so the letters like o or p etc got filled in.

IIRCsome of the numbers are the last 3 of the part number.

Assuming the axel is stock to your car, look in the free to download parts book for the part number.

Also a build sheet might have some of the same codes.

They look great and will only look that way untouched.

Leave the axle as is.

Mask off and paint around.

You said yourself it’s not a showpiece garage queen restoration.

Yup, spot on. I was going to redo the yellow and white paint daubs that are still there and wanted it all to look "fresh".

Did you make yours by carving the text from a blank or did you use a different method? Thanks!

I do CAD so i found a text font. In my case FUTURA BOLD was a really good match, imported it to the CAD program and a photo of the top of the VR.

knowing the dimensions of the VR I scaled the photo to match.

Then aligned the text to the photo.

After, I exported a file ( don't recall the file type, might have been a .jpg, with black solid letters)

I uploaded it to the online company and a week later I had the stamp.

Got it! Thanks for the details, sir. L8r
