Hey all. In my '74 Duster's previous life, someone removed the gas tank and fill tube, chopped out the spare tire well, riveted down a piece of sheet and stuck in a fuel cell. I'm gathering parts to put it all back, and I've found a fill tube from a '73 Valiant. Anyone know if it's the same tube as the Duster would use?

Gotcha, thanks. My friend's got a Dart Sport parts car I may be able to get one out of, at least to check.

I know Dusters & Dart Sports with the fold down rear seat are bent different but should locate in the same spots, i.e. tank to filler neck areas.

They are different. You will see the Dart Sport, Duster , And Demon have 3 attachment screws where Valiant. Dart , and Scamp have 4. This is so you can't interchange them, They are angled different due to the Valiant style having a flatter quarter then the Duster. You will put a slight buckle in your quarter when tightened.

Also they are different through the years. 72-76 screw through to the outside of the Quarter and 68-71 fasten on the inside.

I am installing 72 AMD quarters on a 71 Demon. Not only did I have to weld in the marker light recess but the fuel cap recess is deeper on the 72 Quarter. If I was to use the 71 fuel neck the gas cap would be recessed into the quarter when installed. So I have one or two choices . Cut out and weld in the fuel recess from the 71 or change out the fuel neck/tube. I have a 72 fuel neck/tube so I will change out the neck/tube. Easier and no welding.

There are many little things they change on every model and year . They still do it today so you can't use parts from used cars on the new cars. Its all about the money and control of parts. You will need a three hole neck/tube with slots where it screws to the quarter, If the fasteners screw into the neck/tube its the wrong one.. Hope this helps and you understand what I described.

Mine has the fold-down seat, I'm almost positive his doesn't... but if it's there I'll grab (or borrow) it, at least to use as a reference.

Thanks, your explanation made perfect sense. I started thinking about the different shape of the quarters last night after my first post. You're absolutely right about the screws, my Duster has 3 (heads are underneath the filler cap), and the Valiant tube has 4. This all leads me to think about my other (hopefully correct) assumption... that the tank and trunk pan that came from the Valiant are the right ones for my car.

Trunk pan & fuel tank should be the same.
