Have a 73 Duster, was originally a slant six, the guy I bought it from says the 360 in it now is an E-58. Is there any way to verify this?

you mean E-85 i think... well the carb would be set up differnt, some with different metering blocks...

I found a place about a week ago that sells non ethanol gasoline in 87 and 93 octane. They are located off Lake Hartwell so there main buyers are people with boats. The gas is higher but it has no ethanol. I filled my truck up and it cost $65.... don't know if it is even worth it. ??

i'm not joking. a e-58 is a police 360 from the lat 70's was also the eh1 i believe in the lil red express trucks. they had a 4bbl carb a double roller chain. not sure if they had a windage tray or not. may have had more too but i don't remember .

Yeah, its an engine code. Supposedly came from a 1979 Volare police car. looking for something a little easier to identify like a casting number?

i edited the first post sorry... i know nothing of small blocks... just thought he was talking about a corn drinker...

E-58 motors did come with windage trays.

Other than the 4 bbl intake, the only other visual clue I know of to look for is orange valve cover gaskets, but that only works if it hasn't ever had the VC's off.

Might look at the codes under the cylinder head part line, on the block. Drivers side, next to the timing chain cover. Might have "HP" in there, but I doon't remember.

Can't vouch for the source, but might read this thread.

...........they also have the 340 cam.......kim................chech the carb #..........kim.........

you know i always heard that too but when i had my lil red depending where you read that may or may not be true. most say it was just a stock production 360 cam.

According to Allpar they did have the 340 cam. Also, the E58 and EH1 were different. the EH1 was an upgraded E58. I don't know what those upgrades consisted of, but that's what Allpar says.

............I've had a couple apart..........they also had a single valve spring with the damper.....this is what i remember them having....its been a few years............340 cam, 340 spring......double roller..........hd oil pump shaft.......windage tray.......kim........

police engine= stiffer springs, top moly ring, DR chain, windage tray, hi psi oil pump spring,

like i said it depends what you read. when i had my lil red some places said a 340 cam others said regular production 360 cam. don't know how accurate allpar really is.

Don't know about the later E-58 motors, but my '74 E-58 came with the 340 cam.

I'd be real surprised if the later ones did though.

Yup. Certainly they are only as accurate as the information that's uploaded.....by humans.

The 78 red expresses had all the good parts in them.... 79 all light duty trucks had to meet emissions standards. Im not real familiar with Police engines, just the back seat:twisted:
