Looking for an 8-1/4" rear axle pumpkin assembly out of an early 6 cylinder axle. This is not like the common 8-1/4" rear with the rear cover but has a carrier very much like an 8-3/4" rear axle. These early 8-1/4" rear gear sets showed up in 62-65 B-bodies with /6's and maybe other. Wanting to get the complete pumpkin for a /6 auto trans car with the 2.93 ratio. Please PM here; thanks!

Darn it!
As fate would have it, i just took the only one ever built to the scrap yard last week.
I hate my life.......

If you want to see a pix, look in the Parts Wanted section of www.slantsix.org under a post with the same title; Doug Dutra (Doctor Dodge) posted 2 pix of one beside it's bigger 8-3/4" brother. If you look hard, you can see the smaller ring gear. The pinion diameter is smaller too.

Gee, here I thought this would be easy....LOL. An undesired part for most people. I sure hope DartNut is kidding.....!

Per my parts interchange book for '56-65, the diff case (ring carrier I think they mean) PN is 2070704 for the 2.96 ratio, and PN 2070706 for the 3.31 ratio. R&P PN is 2070808 for 3.31 and 2070809 for 2.93.

Differential housing PN is 2070741 on my present 3.31 x 8-1/4" R&P, and should be the same for the 2.93 x 8-1/4" R&P, and is the same one for the 8-3/4" small stem pinion, I do believe.

I can supposedly use the 8-3/4" with a change in the center thrust block but would prefer the complete 2.93 x 8-1/4"

There was a older unit that looked a lot like a 8 3/4 in the 50s, but I have NEVER seen a B body with a 8 1/4 removable chunk

You are welcome to come look at my '62 Dart...! A 99% original /6 car. The /6 B's are supposed to have had the 8-1/4" for '62-'65. If you spent time on the drag strip, then it would not shock me to not see one....or maybe you did and did not realize it. The 741 case is the same as for the small pinion 8-3/4".

Anyhooo....looking for one as described.

Oh, ok, makes more sense now. It is NOT a normal 8 1/4 axle, it is in fact, a 8 3/4 banjo axle, but with a funky ring gear. I would swap right in any normal 8 3/4 chunk and call it a day.

also 2:94 geared 8 3/4 center chunks are VERY plentiful in my experience, obviously not so much so on your 8 1/4
