Edelbrock Tarantula info ( Photos )

Im putting a stout 340 together for vintage Gasser group so I must run vintage intakes and nothing modern so always being a Edelbrock fan I purchased a never mounted Tunnel Ram Edelbrock TR5 ) and also purchased a Edelbrock TM5 ) most likely running the tunnel ram but like having options so the single 4 could be used at some time or another. I was thumbing thru my early 70s magazines today and found the following info and photos if anyone is interested in a certain one I can tell ya what magazine it came from or email ya a copy . I know most people are into the modern stuff but their is still some folks out there who have a interest in the vintage hardware , I was amazed @ the RPM potential of the this intake ( TM5 ) .
One picture has new releases from Edelbrock for 1971 and the ( TR5 ) was introduced for the 340 engine .

I’d bet that the 8500 is a worked over intake from the hands of the pro’s. And vs what? On what size C.I.D. engine?

Im sure it was a [ CHEBBY ] small block - but same principals apply to our 340 Mopar .

They did a write up on the Tarantula for Mopar intake in HP books "small block Chrysler" and the piece they tested was a fiberglass prototype. The book was a collection of mag articles from the 273 through the 360 engine buildups. My friends Nova had the same intake on it with the cockeyed carb placement. do you think you could make an intake out of fiberlglass and have it last? You could make the runner tree out of clay and just wrap it in fiberglass mat and resin....?

I ran and still run a tarantula, or is it a torker (?) on my 64 dart gt 340 4spd. Bought it in like '72, maybe. Pretty good mileage: 18mpg, and my best 1/4 mile was 13.04 @ 104 on JC Penney slicks (!).

I bought them used from Rich DeHart in the early to mid 80's. They were pretty hard then, I had to heat them up pretty good to get them to stick.
Rich has moved to Spokane, WA, where he races (same car for 45 yrs, now), a black 64 Belvedere. He has gone 10.40''s in that car, currently running 10.80's.
