Emergency brake delete

This sucks, It's just irresponsible to remove the back up brake system from your car. There I said it. Don't like it? Too bad.

A parking brake isn't a back up brake system, it's a parking brake. Good way to spin your car out when you ratchet down the pedal and lock the rear brakes too

The OP's simple question was answered within the first handful of responses. Not sure why folks have continually felt the need to lecture a grown man on what they feel is unsafe.

A parking brake would likely never stop the car in a true "emergency" situation, so there's that. Although it will help hold the car in place, especially with a manual transmission, deleting the parking brake will not somehow mysteriously make the brakes fail, or do otherwise "off the map" stuff. They will continue to work fine. It's his car and that's what he wants to do. Let him do it and go live your own lives dammit all.

WRONG .

A parking brake should hold in reverse, dontcha think ?

How many times you backed outta a parking space, put it in drive, and not move an inch forward till you release the "emergency" ? ?

Shouldn't be calling other people dumbass while you continue demonstrating being one, dontcha think ? ? (obviously not) !

They do hold in reverse "somewhat" but not near as good forward, simply because the way brake shoes are made. The short shoe (leading) on the front and long shoe (trailing) on the rear, so they naturally hold about twice as strong forward.

Actually, GM addressed this issue in the early 80's by putting the cable in thru the back section of the backing-plate to have the rear shoe become the leading shoe, and reverse rotation then applies the front shoe .

Yeah? Who the hell has an 80s GM?

Because any one of use could be on the receiving end of an unsafe, out of control vehicle.

During a hydraulic brake failure, twisting the handle of the e-brake and pulling it back without engaging the rachet could be the difference between somebody dying or not. It could be the driver, but it could be some innocent other person (and usually is).

There's no denying that and I totally agree 100%. But it's his car. I just hope that no one does get hurt. It's a possibility for sure.

So what A-body do you have that has an emergency brake pedal???? They all have handbrakes and you don't have to be Einstein to figure out how to turn the handle (like when you release it) and pull on the handle to apply the rear brakes without locking the e-brake in one place. Sheesh...

You're nothing but a fool.

Somebody needs to man up and admit that they were wrong about all A-bodies having hand actuated parking brakes.

pull out the handle and use the pedal like a foot brake

Dedicating one hand to the park brake release is not practical during an unexpected brake failure situation while also steering and shifting down the transmission when seconds count.
