End of an era!

I look for signs as to when it got the the yard. A 66 Barracuda has a 1980 nickel in it. It was only 25 years old ( or there about) when scrapped

Man, you're lucky that was not a 1895 nickel, you'd be lost in the past! (The logic is off a little). 1980 would be the earliest someone left that nickel in there, but yeah I get your point.

I found an AMC Eagle in the yard a couple years ago, posted pics of it here. It would have been a survivor car if parked indoors. I think it had like 8k miles on it or some ridiculous low number. The tags expired four years after manufacturer, and I found the original keys, books, ice scraper, everything all from 1982. The keys had zero wear on them. They were still sharp and crisp in the cuts.

I'm trying to get out there for one last "hurrah" as soon as possible/before they close, as I'd like to find some odds and ends for my two late 60's trucks
That's what I did, I picked up 2 totes full of smalls and nuts and bolts, I had a list that I was looking for but if I saw something (squirrel) I grabbed it.

It is sad. We have a modern yard just 3 miles down the road that closed up. Been in business since the 1950s. We used to get out of school almost everyday and stomp all over that yard. They're becoming a thing of the past. These newer generations won't know how cool it was to search yards and find cool deals.
I was walking thru a Mopar junk yard , looking for window crank Handel for my 69 rt , found a 68 426 hemi in a rolled road runner with 11,000 miles on it , couldn't sleep till I had it home ..
Wanting to buy the car back now that me and a friend (mechanic) , put that engine in , but the coin is tuff..

Boneyards!! Tall weeds, weeds that stick or cut, chiggers, ticks, skeeters, maybe some fleas, deadly spiders (or just the Brown Recluse), snakes, skunks, dead birds with bird flu! no shade, hotter than H***. Loss 3-4-5-6 tools every trip! :BangHead: :BangHead: :BangHead:
Ya gotta love it!!?????

You forgot knee-deep snow, ice as thick as your arm (for those of us who just gotta have something even though it's the middle of January); or else skunks, mud up to your ankles and JY dogs who seem like they haven't eaten in a week sizing you up as a quick snack!
Yes, I do love it!

Sad to hear about Elliot's. Now they can add a bunch of houses and several shops and businesses where all sales can include a 9% community development fee!

Appreciate the memories, Goeff.

Tall weeds, weeds that stick or cut
There's a yard near by.

4 foot tall weeds, and not just any weeds, weeds covered in balls of stickers that look the the ball on a mace.

Last summer I did something to reduce the tedious task of getting all of them off before getting in car.

I "borrowed" a pair of my wife's pantyhose, and pulled them on over my shoes and pants, like waders. When I was done I unrolled them and tossed them in the trash. Not a single sticker.

Ok let the ribbing begin.

Yep, mental math is not my strong point. 14 years old when scrapped.

Sheer :) genius!
Stylish too, I bet!
Gotta keep that in mind. I keep an old pair in the toolbox- they make a great emergency fan belt.

I am too young to remember directly, but have heard that pantyhose over the air filter is how they kept the ash from clogging the filter when Mt. St. Helens blew in the early '80's.

When you are old and tough, spray some carb cleaner on your jeans and light it off!!!! Fast and clean!! :BangHead:

I accidentally sprayed myself in the crotch with carb cleaner once. It went in one carb port and came out another.

That's not a mistake you make twice.

I was doing a gas tank on my dad's 71 fury
When still in high-school
Dropped the tank down the hole time sitting in a puddle of gas
Noticed my *** started burning
Never ran so fast to the shower
Think i was out of my pants 1/2 way up the stairs.....think i took 15 minutes in the shower before the burning started to go away

We are in the Twilight of our hobby, I just feel fortunate to have been able to be part of the best automotive times ever the 60s 70s and 80s .I'm not quite ready to ride into the sunset yet but when I do it will be in a classic Mopar! Yes those were the good old days.

Yes, 80s. Classic Mopars were still abundant and cheap, good parts were still available, and we were beating the crap out of them and having the time of our lives.
The 80s was a very good decade. Like said, they were abundant, NO ONE had the BJ-Mecum price affliction yet, bone yards everywhere with these old things, 4 door cars were parts cars and not with asking prices of $10,000!!!! :BangHead: Viet Nam was a bad memory, OK so interest rates were 20 odd %. but...... the old car hobby was FUN!!!!!!!!:thumbsup::steering:

Oh but 80s Mopar were junk just like any 80s car .....
I did like my 84 Daytona...but it was a pos
My 86 vette was the first car that was the start of the hp revolution but at 250hp still sad funny when you think about it.
My 2001 s4 made 250 hp and was faster got beter fuel economy and more top end
Nothing like doing 90 and hitting the gas and feeling it pull

Lucky for me, in the '80s there was no way I could afford a new car.
Now that I think about it, I still can't...

Yes the '80s mopars were still King on the street for the most part everyone was still using factory heads just tweaking them and damn the girls were horny.

I bought 3 new cars in my life time
On was the 84 Daytona turbo
On the way home from the dealer the speedo broke 22 miles on it
It was a fun car 3 years and 1/3 of the time in the dealer for different problems
Traded it in on my 86 vette ..it was a left over
Still have it ...not worth anything 36k on it
Then in 01 bought my s4 wife got pregnant
Took it off the road 24k on it now it's worth more then I bought it for ....not sure might sell it this year...kinda scared to drive it

The exhaust had a smell of burnt Tuna Fish. :poke::realcrazy::eek:
