This one might ruffle some feathers.

I'm doing a repaint on my car next winter, i want to ditch the satin black in favor of high gloss black, im also ditching all the black powercoated trim/bumpers and replacing all with shiny chrome/stainless.

Which brings me yo the engine bay....I HATE black engine bays....you can't see **** when your working on it, it always looks dirty. i KNOW mopar always painted the engine bays body color....but damnit.

I'm considering doing my engine bay in mopar purple, as well as having my suspension parts and such powdercoated to match.

Pitchforks and torches? Love it? Hate it? Should i reconsider...

Since you asked, I think your idea sounds pretty dumb, but it's your car. Who cares what anyone else thinks. Do what makes YOU happy. Screw everyone else.

Considering whatcha got going on right now you can't go wrong with that!

Seriously though, just do what you like.

Gloss black is kind of sexy and with the outside black it shouldn't be an issue. I get fed crap with mine but I needed to pant under the hood before dropping the engine in. I don't like the original color so Gloss black it was.

Who am I to say... I painted my engine compartment gray with bright dark blue metallic exterior and black interior. I may change it up though when the car is repainted. The car is now gray primer sad to say...looking for a painter lol.

Like mine pictured above. It needs painted. If I do, the engine compartment will be painted what the body is. It might be black. I have only seen one 66 in black and it was in a photo.

looks like you kinda had the same idea going as me. That looks mighty clean.

Sorry but you asked for opinions: Black car with purple engine bay sounds absolutely butt ugly. The question will be "when are you going to paint the rest of the car to match?" Why don't you just paint the whole car Plum Crazy?

I totally agree with the folks who said, "It's your car......". However, you DID ask for our thoughts!
Here are my thoughts:
It IS your car, so do what you want with it, but I think a shiny black car with a purple engine compartment would look terrible. You did ask.

I think i have been talked out of it. Its like those moments tou want to do a thing, and you know its bad and wrong. But you need someone else to say it out loud....

Opinion???? Like said, make yourself happy!
Opinion? Personally I hate black cars, had them, never want another. I could never keep on clean, wash it, and 5 minutes later full of dust! But I have always lived in the dusty rural country.
Mopar drag cars (maybe like Sox and Martin, etc.) painted engine bays white, to see any leaks.
I have had 6-8 Purple E bodies, I was overdosed on them back in the 80s! I hate purple. Black car with purple engine bay, NUTS!
BUT... you wanted opinions!!!!
BUT...It is your car, your work and your $!

I've also had black cars, three at one time. Start washing, first ones dirty again before finishing washing the third. I will NEVER own another. It's simply a deal breaker.
From that perspective..... why not paint the whole car purple?

My dark gray racecar had a medium/light gray engine compartment (along with a light gray interior, rollbar and carpet)
It was very serviceable.
Your black exterior with a medium gray under-hood would work better than purple.

I had thought about white as an option too gor that very reason. Maybe that would be a good compromise...

I have to say Mopar got it right. You're black engine bay looks dirty cuz it is. if it was done correctly which it may or may not be nothing highlights aluminum and brightly colored paint better than gloss black. And probably there is nothing is harder to keep clean. I clean my engine bay about every other time I clean my car. But I enjoy it it's therapeutic and much better than let's say changing a throwout bearing.
