Sweet looking engine. Great job, looking forward to the vid. :thumblef:

Nice but do us a favor plug off all holes that can allow dirt in.:thumblef:

I took that last pick just before putting the carb on. Distributor hole was still taped off.

Everything's in now, but have a starter problem. Murphy is fighting me right at the end.

I had Isky solids in mine. I broke it in with oil additive for the cam. The important thing is to make the first running at least 30 minutes long (don't shut it off). I left the radiator cap off in case of a leak or an overheating problem so I would be able to add water without shutting it off. I ran it at about 1600 RPM reving it lightly (2300 RPM) occasionally. I know it's a dumb mistake but mine wouldn't start and I found the dist. was 180 out. It happens more often then you think so triple check it. The last thing you want is to just keep cranking it dry. Here's a video of mine.

Starter problem fixed yesterday, Got a 10 second startup and the new flex fan straightened out and ate the radiator. Will either get a replacement (If I can find same radiator) OR see if it can be recored for a decent price. I spent about 3 hours on it trying to seal the holes with solder, brass wire and torch. Got most of the holes plugged, but not happy with the look, nor do I think I will handle any pressure. Gotta get it fixed. Will have to pull.

It did sound good for those 10 seconds.

More to come.

I was shocked at the price of a recored radiator........good luck looks great so far...

I pick up the fixed radiator in about 2 hours when I get off work. Betcha cant guess what I'll be driving by sometime tonight?

Don't forget to change the oil after break in the cam.

Best of luck with the new engine. :)

I broke in the 273 tonight. Was great. Couldnt wait for the radiator paint to dry, Figured the heat will help cure it, besides, not happy with the shop's paint job and will be repainting it later.

Here's the sound of the exhaust after breakin was complete.

Sounds great.........glad to see you have it up and running......

Sounds Great!! :glasses8:

What you using for exhaust?

Lee :)

I have the Year-1 Early A HP Exhaust with resonator, Except, I took the turbo muffler (that I popped with a backfire playing on the freeway) and replaced it with a 9 degree offset round glasspack.

The resonator with the glasspack is what had been run on it for many years after the original muffler bit it. I know when mom used to takes on the freeway in it back in the 80's, it had a magnaflow glasspack.
