Hello guys my name is Cody Stafford and im just curious on a few things. I have a beautiful 1968 Plymouth Barracuda. some of you may have seen the pictures of it on the Gallery. Im just wondering what i can do to tune up the engine. You see my granpa restored the car back in like 96 or 97 i forget wich year but its got the stock 318 v8 in it and im just wondering what i can do to make it just a tad faster. Its got an aftermarket 2 bbl Carb on it which im planning on putting a 4 bbl on it after an intake swap. Im just curious on how a cam some new lifters and headers along with the carb swap would do. Im really not looking forward to doing a WHOLe new engine rebuild seeing how i dont wanna get into replacing pistons and rods and such. So please can i get some pointers from you guys. If it helps im only 20 years old and have had only mild experience with engines. Id appreciate any and all of the help.

First off, you'll want to inspect what's THERE. Do a compression check. Make sure it is really in good shape. No sense spending money on bolt ons if it has a weak or dead cylinder because of worn rings or bad valves.

You'll want to make a PLAN based on your budget. Don't just buy parts haphazardly. Write down your goals and mark them off one by one. You can see what you're getting done and have less chance of getting burned out. Figure out what you can spend, let us know what your goals are and then maybe we can get specific on some parts recommendations.

X2 on the great advice. Rob has half a clue as to what is going on. You might want to listen to him a little.
