engine weights 383 vs 318/360

Hi!
Does anyone know what a 383 with aluminum heads and intake
weighs compared to a small block with stock iron heads and cast iron intake? I am curious to know. Thanks.

Your getting close, if not less. That's a lot of iron.

There's about 120 pound difference between a 440 and a 360. If that helps.

I can tell you this. I about had an effin' stroke back int he 70's when I put the sixpack back on my 70 once.

I just went through this, and with aluminum heads intake waterpump and mini starter its sb weight.

That old 6 pack intake was wacky heavy! Being cast iron steel! Yea! Whew! Huff N puff!!!

What is the weight savings on iron to aluminum for the BB head? 50lbs. A head? The intakes are a Tidy bit of weight as well. Swapping out the water pump and it's housing is a good weight move too.

I'm swapping out the intake on my 383 today, stock 383 4bbl cast to a Performer dual plane. I will throw them on the scale when i get it pulled off.

Thanks for the info... Looks like that info is right on as far as the intake is concerned. I weighed mine in at 41.5lbs for the iron and 14.8 lbs on the Eddy Performer intake. The rest of mine is just the stock iron setup.
