Extra oil passages-early 340

In the current issue of Mopar Collectors Guide, a gentleman stated that his 6-67 date coded 340 block has 4 oil passages in the valley, instead of two. Two of them are capped off. My 6-67 block is the same. I'm now very curious as to why they were cast in. I wonder if Mopar had other oiling designs on the board in the early years?

Well, thats three we know of. They made it sound rare, but likely all early blocks were like this. I wonder if early 318's have them too? I can't remember seeing them before.
